Songs that Remind me of Forumosans

OK, here’s another meaningless thread. I was listening to some music and it occurred to me that some of the songs reminded me of several Forumosans. No offense meant by any of these… just for fun… And the bold portions are the parts that really remind me of these posters :stuck_out_tongue:

This one reminds me of Blueface:
Country DJ’s knows that I’m an outlaw.
They’d never come to see me in this dive.
Where bikers stare at cowboys who are laughen’ at the hippies.
Who are prayen’ they’ll get out of her alive.
The loud mouth in the corners gettin’ to me.
Talking about my earrings and my hair
.
I guess he aint read the sign that says I’ve been to prison.
Someone ought to warn him, ‘fore I knock him off his chair.
Cause my long hair just can’t cover up my redneck.
I’ve won every fight I’ve ever faught.
And I don’t need some turkey telling me that I ain’t country.
Sayin’ I aint worth a damn old, ticket that he bought.

Chorus:
'Cause I can sing all those songs about Texas,
And I still do all the sad one’s that I know.
They tell me, I look like Merle Haggard,
And sound alot like David Allen Coe.

And the barmaid in the last town that we played in.
Knew the words to every song I wrote.
She said Jimmy Rabbit turned her on to my last album.
Just about the time the jukebox broke.
Ya Jonny Cash helped me get out of prison.
Long before Rodriquez stole that goat.
I’ve been a Rhinestone Cowboy for so long I can’t remember.
And I can do you every song Hank Williams ever wrote.

Chorus:
And I can sing all those songs about Texas,
And I still do all the sad one’s that I know.
I can’t help it, I like Merle Haggard,
And sound alot like David Allen Coe.

And this one reminds me of forumosa:
Cosmic Charley how do you do?
Truckin’ in style along the avenue
Dumdeedumdee doodley doo
Go on home, your mama’s calling you

Calico Kahlia come tell me the news
Calamity’s waiting for a way to get to her

Rosy red and electric blue
I bought you a paddle for your paper canoe

Say you’ll come back when you can
Whenever your airplane happens to land
Maybe I’ll be back here too
It all depends on what’s with you

Hung up waitin for a windy day
Kite on ice since the first of February
Mama Bee saying that the wind might blow
But standin here I say I just don’t know

New ones comin as the old ones go
Everything’s movin here but much too slowly
Little bit quicker and we might have time
to say 'how do you do?" before we’re left behind

Calliope wail like a seaside zoo
The very last lately inquired about you
It’s really very one or two
The first you wanted, the last I knew

I just wonder if you shouldn’t feel
less concern about the deep unreal

The very first word is : How do you do?
The last: go home, your mama’s callin you

Go on home
Your mama’s calling you
Calling you…
This reminds me of Alien
I am woman, hear me roar
In numbers too big to ignore
And I know too much to go back an’ pretend
'cause I’ve heard it all before

And I’ve been down there on the floor
No one’s ever gonna keep me down again
CHORUS
Oh yes I am wise
But it’s wisdom born of pain
Yes, I’ve paid the price
But look how much I gained
If I have to, I can do anything
I am strong (strong)
I am invincible (invincible)
I am woman
You can bend but never break me
'cause it only serves to make me
More determined to achieve my final goal
And I come back even stronger
Not a novice any longer
‘cause you’ve deepened the conviction in my soul
CHORUS
I am woman watch me grow
See me standing toe to toe
As I spread my lovin’ arms across the land
But I’m still an embryo
With a long long way to go
Until I make my brother understand
Oh yes I am wise
But it’s wisdom born of pain
Yes, I’ve paid the price
But look how much I gained
If I have to I can face anything
I am strong (strong)
I am invincible (invincible)
I am woman
Oh, I am woman
I am invincible
I am strong
FADE
I am woman
I am invincible
I am strong
I am woman
One song…but with a little creative editing, I can make it remind me of two forumosans…first up…Tomas
Let’s talk about sex, baby
Let’s talk about you and me
Let’s talk about all the good things
And the bad things that may be
Let’s talk about sex
Let’s talk about sex
Let’s talk about sex
Let’s talk about sex

Let’s talk about sex for now to the people at home or in the crowd
It keeps coming up anyhow
Don’t decoy, avoid, or make void the topic
Cuz that ain’t gonna stop it
Now we talk about sex on the radio and video shows
Many will know anything goes
Let’s tell it how it is, and how it could be
How it was, and of course, how it should be
Those who think it’s dirty have a choice
Pick up the needle, press pause, or turn the radio off
Will that stop us, Pep? I doubt it
All right then, come on, Spin

CHORUS

Hot to trot, make any man’s eyes pop
She use what she got to get whatever she don’t got
Fellas drool like fools, but then again they’re only human
The chick was a hit because her body was boomin’
Gold, pearls, rubies, crazy diamonds
tigerman, i like this thread. cute and funny and interesting. good idea!

I fuckin HATE that song. Helen Reddy makes me wanna barf!
Here’s Tigerman’s song:
100 bottles of beer on the wall, 100 bottles of beer…
Take one down, pass it around,
99 bottles of beer on the wall.
99 bottles of beer on the wall,
99 bottles of beer…

Fred Smith’s

If I Only Had a Heart

When a man’s an empty kettle
He should be on his mettle.
And yet I’m torn apart.
Just because I’m presumin’
That I could be kind-a human,
If I only had a heart.
I’d be tender - I’d be gentle
And awful sentimental
Regarding Love and Art
I’d be friends with sparrows
And the boy who shoots the arrows
If I only had a heart.

I’d have to say that Julie Brown’s “'Cuz I’m a Blonde” reminds me of Mesheel. Must be the, uh, “huge tracts of land” she’s mentioned.

Blueface and The Rodeo Song are a match made in heaven:

“Well it’s forty below
And I don’t give a fuck
Got a heater in my truck
And I’m off to the rodeo”

When I read the lyrics to this song, I think ofCranky Laowai:

“The Spelling Song”

"F-U-C-K-Y-O-U-B-L-O-W-M-E
F-U-C-K-Y-O-U-B-L-O-W-M-E

These are the words that I wanted to shout
but I guess it’s just best
if I spell them out

F-U-C-K-Y-O-U-B-L-O-W-M-E

I-C-A-N-T-S-T-A-N-D-Y-O-U, no more
G-E-T-T-H-E-F-U-C-K-O-U-T, the door

These are the words that I want to say
I think I shall use
an alternative way"

Note, this is not indicative of what I want to say to CrankyLaowai, but the lyrics remind me of his interest in language. I’m sure these lyrics were inspired by a study of employees’ feelings just before they quit their jobs.

I think Warren Zevon’s “Excitable Boy” fits forumosa, but I tweaked the lyrics a bit to make them more relevant to his life here in Taiwan.

Excitable Boy

"Well, he went down to Shida in his Sunday best
Excitable boy, they all said
And he rubbed stinky tofu all over his chest
Excitable boy, they all said
Well, he’s just an excitable boy

He took little Mei-Hua out to Carnegie’s
Excitable boy, they all said
Then he poured two full Boddingtons down her shirt sleeves
Excitable boy, they all said
Well, he’s just an excitable boy

He went for some four a.m. drinks in the Zone
Excitable boy, they all said
And he bit the bouncer’s leg right down to the bone
Excitable boy, they all said
Well, he’s just an excitable boy

After ten long years, they made him a Taiwanese
Excitable boy, they all said
Now’s he’s somewhere in Matsu wearing army fatigues
Excitable boy, they all said
Well, he’s just an excitable boy."

Hong Kong Phooey, number one super guy.
Hong Kong Phooey, quicker than the human eye.

He’s got style, a groovy style,
and a car that just won’t stop.
When the going gets tough, he’s really rough,
with a Hong Kong Phooey chop (Hi-Ya!)

Hong Kong Phooey, number one super guy.
Hong Kong Phooey, quicker than the human eye.
Hong Kong Phooey, he’s fan-riffic (gong!)

This reminds me of Toe Save :sunglasses: :
let us burn one
From end to end
And pass it over
To me my friend
Burn it long, we’ll burn it slow
To light me up before I go

If you don’t like my fire
Then don’t come around
Cause I’m gonna burn one down
Yes I’m gonna burn one down

My choice is what i choose to do
And if I’m causing no harm
It shouldn’t bother you
Your choice is who you choose to be
And if your causin’ no harm
Then you’re alright with me

If you don’t like my fire
Then don’t come around
Cause I’m gonna burn one down
Yes I’m gonna burn one down

Herb the gift from the earth
And what’s from the earth
Is of the greatest worth
So before you knock it try it first
You’ll see it’s a blessing
And not a curse

If you don’t like my fire
Then don’t come around
Cause I’m gonna burn one down
Yes I’m gonna burn one down
Every time I hear the song “Jokerman” by Bob Dylan, I changed it to “Tigerman”:

“Jokerman dance to the nightingale tune,
Bird fly high by the light of the moon,
Oh, oh, oh, Jokerman.”
I was listening to some music and it occurred to me …
– tigerman
Don’t tell me (and the Forumosans) that you were listening to Helen Reddy? Some people have all their taste in their mouth! (That’s for not inviting me to your beer party!)

No, I wasn’t listening to Helen Reddy. I was listening to other music when the idea that some songs remind me of some Forumosans.

There will be other beer tastings. There are 15 people coming tomorrow and there were 14 people at the last tasting… I can only have so many people at one time… as much as I’d like to invite everyone (and with very few exceptions, I would), the logistics make doing so impossible.

You haven’t shown much (any?) interest in the beer thread. But, if you truly are, you’ll be invited to the next tasting.

Ahhh Hooo, Werewolves of London!

This one reminds me of Coroner:

Tomas: “I’m Too Sexy” by Right Said Fred

Sandman: “Margaritaville” by Jimmy Buffett (don’t ask why)

big fluffy matthew: “Kitty” by the Presidents of the United States

blueface666: “Sympathy for the Devil” by the Rolling Stones

Maoman: “Particle Man” by They Might Be Giants

Formosa: “Fool on the Hill” by the Beatles
The man of a thousand voices [well, a thousand six hundred eighty-three, actually]
talking perfectly loud
But nobody ever hears him,
Or the sound he appears to make,
[the power of ignore?]
And he never seems to notice,
But the fool on the hill
Sees the sun going down,
And the eyes in his head,
See the world spinning around…
Nobody seems to like him
They can tell what he wants to do…
But you know I love you, formosa.

Holy schitzel, kiddos! Why does this feel like the song dedication page in my junior high school’s monthly student newspaper? Big blast from the 90’s! Now all we need is a Sir Mix-A-Lot and “I’ve Got Friends in Low Places” to make the collection complete.

here is the song lyric (adapted) that makes me think of most Forumosans:

Clowns to the left of me,
Jokers to the right,
Here I am stuck in Formosa with you.

Chou

This one reminds me of all forumosans:

"Knights in white satin, never reaching the end, letters I’ve written, never meaning to send, beauty I’ve always missed, with these eyes before, just what the truth is I can’t say anymore…because I love you, yes I love you, oh, how I love youuuuuuuuuu, ohhhhh

Gazing at people, some hand in hand, just what I am going through, they can’t understand. Some try to tell me, thoughts they can not defend, just what you want to be you will be in the end, and I love you, yes, I love you, oh, how I love you, oh, how I love youuuuuuuuuuu,

Knights in white satin, never reaching the end, letters I
