Special Circumstances

My wife and I are both foreigners who have ARCs through working here. We recently found out that my wife is pregnant (we are elated with the news). But I am now worrying about one problem. My wife will lose her ARC when she has to quit her job in a couple of months. And her doctor has said that she is not allowed to fly while pregnant. So, what happens? The ARC will be cancelled and she legally only has 7 days to leave the country. But, she can’t. So, what happens? Can she get another ARC and resident visa through me (without having to leave the country). Her school will probably not be too thrilled that she is leaving so I don’t think trying to talk them into not canceling her ARC is out of the question.

So, any ideas…

Why don’t you just get her a visitor’s visa? Besides going to Chinese school, medical care is another valid reason to be granted visa extensions.

I believe that she is able to get an ARC through your ARC. Congrats on the good news!

Thanks for the congrats. Is it possible to switch from one ARC (i.e. work sponsored) to another (such as spouse sponsored) without leaving the country?

I would think so.
