Specials at the Grand Hyatt Taipei

I meant to post this up last month when they kicked off the promotion. All week long, one price = NT$ 580

[guys, if this has already been discussed, kindly merge this post over – I have a banner linked over here – peace]

Hmmm NT$580 for the Grand Hyatt. Sounds great. It usually has an excellent spread. That said, what about the “lai lai crowd” that used to infest the place on weekends. You know the screeching obasans yelling come here from across the lobby while scampering, simpering and waving their fat fingers all over the place. The problem is they follow you inside. I find two places drive me to nervous exhaustion, the buffet at the Hyatt and the one at the Grand Formosa. I live in terror that someone is going to spill something all over me. Its like dropping a sack of flour in a refugee camp. Bang, elbow, push. It also pisses me off when one person comes up and takes the whole tray of smoked salmon to their table as a dish. Ditto for the Jiu Kong clams.

Finally, the worst of the worst when it comes to buffets though is the one on the 45F of the XinGuang Mitsukoshi Bldg. Every country bumpkin from the whole island is assembled there.

Sorry to be a snob about this and I did not mean to dis the Grand Hyatt, just do not go on Sunday and look first on Saturday if you cannot stand the surging, hurly burly crowds. That’s all I’m sayin’
