These guys are awesome, especially if you like (as I do) the cinnamon / brown sugar / butter trifecta. They are reasonably priced, too, given the quality of ingredients they use.

Iām not overly surprised.
Costco, if you like cinnabon-style. Itās newish - it wasnāt here a few months ago+. Before that, they had this AMAZING ācronut-styleā cinnamon roll ⦠but they got rid of it pretty fast.
It was probably the best cinnamon roll Iāve ever had in my life. However, I also read online it was āOne of Europeās most unhealthiest dessertsā (when I Googled the name they called it - forgot the nameā¦). Thatās⦠probably why
Kooks in DanShui used to have the best cinnamon roll beside that, but only when they were ābeta testingā it where it seemed made from scratch (with pecans! YES, not walnuts [why does TW love Walnuts so much over Pecans?!). The last time I had it, it was clearly microwaved or reheated (you know, when itās not crunchy on the outside, then when you bite it, it just sorta rubbers in on itself until it accordions-in 90% when it will actually allow your teeth to sink in)⦠I think Covid caused that (off topic: Covid ruined a bunch of restaurants, like that Mexican restaurant in TianMu across the mall, ahh - no one has been making things fresh anymore and the difference is night n day).
Sorry, I canāt remember the name of the place but itās within walking distance of the Regent Hotel in Jhong Shan district in Taipei. Itās a huge white exterior building, which Iāll include a partial shot of and of the cinnamon bun in question. If you ask me āoh is this so-so?ā I probably wonāt be able to confirm as I just stopped there once a month ago. But I can say itās easily the best cinnamon bun Iāve had in Taiwan.
That is the former residence of the US ambassador (discontinued, as we know, during the Carter administration), now the home of SPOT Film Houseāwith a cafe inside. Good to know it has solid baked goods for sale! I may well check it out.

I like them a lot.
They do suck. Even worse are the McDonaldās cinnamon rolls in that coffee annex thingamajig. Itās like the cinnamon rolls there encountered some kind of cinnamon roll vampire, and the vampire sucked everything good out of the cinnamon roll away. What we are left with is a soulless husk masquerading as a cinnamon roll.
The problem is the consistency/texture more than the taste. Cinnamon rolls should be hot and gooey and fall apart as soon as you dig into them with a fork. The ones at Starbucks (and I suppose McDonalds) are as hard as a rock. Itās like eating a hard dinner roll with some artificial cinnamon flavor dust sprinkled on it.
Industrial food.
Starbucks actually had some decent baking for a while when they worked with some French outfit to supply some of their goods. Perhaps some forumosans in the industry will know what I am referring to. Of course they discontinued this arrangement, perhaps after (mistakenly) thinking they now have the hang of this in their Uni-President Industrial Food Factories.

As far as I know itās still on. He hasnāt been doing the cinnamon rolls at the Friday pop ups lately, though. Carrot cake has been selling too well, apparently.

Thanks for dashing my hopes!
Yes, I saw on the Facebook page that the cinnamon rolls are for order (by the dozen?) only, or at Sunday brunches, at Crafted on the first Sunday of the month.
just bought these decent looking cinnamon rolls at Carrefour
hope the taste good and arenāt dry / hard
Updateā¦
Ate one.
Iād give it 1 out of 5 stars.
Itās basically bread with cream cheese on it and thatās it. It looks like cinnamon is in it, it says cinnamon is in it, but thereās zero cinnamon taste at all.

Mondays only, this wholesale gourmet supermarket makes pretty good cinnamon rolls with cinnamon and the right amount of icing.
Donāt make a special trip in case they happen to not make them that day or something but if youāre in the area then stop in. Or if in the area stop in anytime and see the schedule with pictures

I got a very promising looking one at a traditional bakery recently. It would have been great but itās that local cinnamon which is really biting.
After 23 Sweets has some decent cinnamon rolls. The cinnamon rolls donāt have the frosting on them, but they still taste good. I havenāt tried any of the flavored ones, just the original. The owner speaks English, which made ordering a lot easier.

Literally everywhere is selling cinnamon rolls now. Even backwoods coffeeshops.
I confess, I donāt get it. I guess they are easy and cheap to make though.
If they are done decently, this is a trend I can work with.
backwoods coffeeshops
Not precisely ābackwoods,ā but when I was recently in Taitung City I visited the excellent Deep Coffee to pick up some of their cakes. Alas, all sold out when I arrivedābut they still had some cinnamon rolls available. I pick one up, and as I was heading out I asked the proprietor if he liked them. He shook his head and admitted he was a bit mystified at why these things were taking off in popularity now!

Exactly. Itās the usual crazy trend here . North American influence because they arenāt really European . Personally I find them quite bland in the dessert department . But they are easy to make and use cheap ingredients is my pet theory.
Donāt want to rain on your parade here, I will also eat them on occasion.
Some doomsday Christians sold me some decent ones in the mountains of Nantou , along with tidbits about how the end of the world was coming soon. Sure thing buddy , hand over those buns.
