Staying motivated in your small business

I think it’s time to try something new! I have heard the same thing from other people who have relatively successful businesses, just gets a bit boring after a while. There are many small business owners in Taiwan because of the environment here. I know one Taiwanese guy who has four businesses running out of his GongYu in HsinChuang…a pencil kit making business (yes there are people who like to make their own pencils!), a sex toy trading operation (exploring new areas), a business trading shower and gas heaters to South America and various invesments in medical companies and real estate. He also lost money trying to launch an online travel agent years ago (if it had worked he would have done well) but his other little companies tick along nicely…works for him but he has a very capable wife and a couple of good assistants helping him out with everything.

Depends on how much you need the income, but why not give something else a shot, different product line or business altogether, even take a job outside. Working on your own means you don’t get to meet many people, I know!

How about hiring a helper to take care of your day to day order processing, keep that ticking along and try something else, another online store but a different biz for instance.

I bought that on Tusday, after being recommended by a friend, and picked up :59 secs at the same time. One is interesting, the other I can’t put down. Insightful stuff.

So, that’s you, me, Craig and the little fat bald guy for lunch. Table for 4 by the window. Good-o.[/quote]

My wife may join us too, as her school is down the road from there and she has a long break then. Will let you know later.

If there are any business owners in Taichung who are interested in regular meet ups, I would love to be a part of it. I’m sure we could all learn from each other.

Dear Asiababy,

Short term – it’s Thursday afternoon so only 1.5 more work days to make your targets and you can enjoy the weekend.

Long term – there’s a terrific column in yesterday’s Financial times by Luke Johnson on entrepreneurship, entitled “why you’ve got to accentuate the positive.” Very good read. It’s probably on google already.

Hope this helps!
