I recently married a Taiwanese here in America while she was here for graduate school. We met years ago while I was in Taiwan on a tourist visa, and now I want to return to Taiwan to be with her, possibly indefinitely. She is currently in Taiwan.

Is there any place where I can find a step by step process for getting a JFRV visa?

Right its a bit confusing, you need to get your crinimal back round check and have it stamped by the TECO in your home country This is the one i used as im british viewtopic.php?f=67&t=64552&start=20 you also need to get a medical health check done,these are both vailid for 3 months so try and get the criminal check done 1st,you need to register your marriage here in taiwan and get a household registration. you also need to be in the country on an “extenable visa” as i had a visa exempt and had to fly to HK to get a Visitor visa which can be changed into an ARC.Two photos and the application form and your about done

apply for your Criminal record check about 2 months before you come out then you have 3 months left when you get here,doing your medical is easy and the other documents can be done in afternoon if you know where they are,you will need a taiwanese speaker to find out where they are!good luck
Thanks again. What does a household registration consist of? Or do you know what it is in Chinese? She doesn’t seem to know and I’m not sure how to explain it to her.
im un sure of what its called in Chinese ,i will ask my wife when she gets home,you have to go to your local housing office,there different for each town and district,its just a document saying that you have joined her family,then you need a new one if you intend on living on your own and not with her family.
I think a household registration is 戶籍謄本 in chinese… I also think if you were married in America you have to get yourself registered in Taiwan before appearing in this book and being able to do JFRV, but I’m not an expert, good luck
Before you do anything else, go to your local TECO (Taiwan “Consulate”) and get a checklist of them. They should be able to help you know exactly what you need to collect, and can check the documents after you have gotten them. They should also let you know what documents need to be certified and copied and so on.
That way when you get to Taiwan you will have a nice neat packet of documents you can just hand over to the “NIA” office with very little left to do if anything.
