If you ask business people in Taiwan who they think is a great business leader OR who they think is a great public speaker, Steve Jobs will be the most common answer.
Damn! I knew he wasn’t in tip top health and had to step down because of it, but I didn’t know his health was that poor. 
Yeah, sad… You can hate on Apple, which I do now and then, despite owning various of their products (because of), but Jobs was undeniably special.
RIP Steve.
Indeed - whatever Apple is/was, Jobs was a real character. Very sad news.
I prefer other companies and think Apple is phony. They appoint an enviro-flake like Al Gore on their board, don’t audit their suppliers enough in China (who often abuse the human rights of their workers), and yet suburban Marin-country living liberals in California think it’s cool to own their products? The Maoist fervor people have when it comes to this brand is like a cult. 
Jobs was a visionary and should be lauded for turning the company into the powerhouse it is today after the Scully years. But I really don’t know why urban hipsters dig this company! They are ruthless and hardly very progressive at all. Yet they are often viewed as some anti-establishment company full of cool people wearing jeans and black turtlenecks? 
Flakes.

I was concerned when he stepped down but did not expect the end so soon.
The Edison of the tech era has passed and will be missed.
We just relocated here from SF where everyone and their dog had an iphone. All of San Francisco is in mourning.
The last time we saw Steve Jobs was on the news back home in September and he was looking so thin, it was terribly sad.
What a visionary. What a revolutionary man.
Though I don’t care for tech products, I do own an iPad2 that I don’t use (haha) but let our child watch shows on it.
And don’t forget Pixar…
Mmm, not really a shock. But anyone who is responsible for an OS that means I dont have to screw around just to try and make my computer work properly is going to be sorely missed.
As a tribute I will share the following story — My mother-in-law just the other day spent 1 hour trying to get a scanner to work on her PC. I told her to plug it into my Mac and scan it. She had the photo scanned within 1 minute. Its little things like that that make our lives so much better.

His legacy seems to be not only the desire to own the latest, most user friendly technology, but also the goal to be a creative, ground-breaking, successful entrepreneur like him. He was key in putting together the computerized interconected world we know today. Love that picture of the candles with the iPhone. Do not own one, but I know those Silicon valley pirates helped put computers in households, not just labs. That is unbelievably cool.

My thoughts, exactly, 914. I’m also from the Bay, and today I just felt different. Like a piece of me was over there feeling the energy that was lost due to the extinguishing of that flame. Hell, I’ve worked in menlo park, all over SF, have friends working for apple, google, know a guy who worked on DARPANET…whether or not you’re a direct part of these things, it’s part of the culture you’re from, something that is a bright star in our creative bubble by the bay. Miss it. RIP Jobs.

Steve was certainly one of the biggest giants of the computer age, right up there at the top. And funny enough, he helped provide a lot of JOBS for a lot of people.
Does this mean Apple is on its long way down? It came close to failure the last time Steve left.

No…please don’t put Newton in the same sentence as Steve Jobs…what a joke!
Newton invented calculus so he could explain the laws of nature. He managed to put light on some of the mysteries of the universe and was instrumental in the scientific revolution.
This all sounds like religious talk to me, the prophet died, the guy was a businessman, that’s it. He headed a huge corporation which doesn’t really care that much about the working conditions of the workers, outsourced what could be outsourced and doesn’t care about environmental protection as they force you to ‘upgrade’ when your battery dies and promote consumption above all else.
Compare him to Bill Gates, now there’s a guy who figured things out a long time and doesn’t get half as much credit as he should. Plus he made time for his family, Jobs had sociopathic tendencies to me.
