Strange warning message popping up

For the last week or so I’ve been getting the following popup warning when I open a thread:

“The QuickTime movie “banner.swf” uses Adobe Flash, which is currently disabled in QuickTime. Do you want to enable it in this movie?”

I don’t get it every time, but it pops up every second or third thread that I open.

What does it mean, and how can I get rid of it?

(Mac OS, Safari browser)

Why don’t you just enable it?

??? I thought Flash was Macromedia. Did Adobe buy it?

Anyway, I hate hate hate hate Flash… :fume:

Because it’s something that just started happening, even though I haven’t changed any settings on my computer, I’d like to know why it’s happening before I enable or disable it.

Yeah, Adobe bought Macromedia years ago.

Yeah, but… what’s Adobe got to do with Apple Quicktime?

Anyway, is it possible here that somehow the default “open this filetype with this program” thing has got messed up? Not that I know shit about MacOSes.

Some banners use Flash, the more animated ones, you’re not missing anything important if you don’t enable it. The advertisers might think it’s important though, they can use .jpg if they want you to see it, serves them right for showing off.

… and some flash incorporated ads crash my computer
