Stream of Consciousness

Cool!
Did you check out the finding good beer page? If so, you might have seen this place or perhaps this place. Here’s a brief quote form the site:

I think you’d be doing yourself a disservice not to pay a visit. Hell, I might even pop over for a day or two from Aviemore myself in August!
I haven’t looked at that yet, but this place is on my list of pubs to visit. Apparently, the name is a play on the guy’s name and means “Eagle"s nest”. He was a brewer (or the like) for someone previously and then opened this joint. While I will not shy away from Belgian beers while in Amsterdam, I am specifically looking for Dutch brews (other than the big H beers).

Here’s a good site if you’re going to visit Amsterdam:

The cafe 't Arendsnest received a very good review here.

Well, I did refer to music too in my original post. Which reminds me, I have a CD that reminds me of you everytime I listen to it… its sitar music played by a guy I met playing his sitar and peddling his CDs on a street back in Pittsburgh (of all places to find sitar music on the street)… anyway, the CD is titled, “The Good, The Bad, and The Karmic”.

But anyway, stream of conciousness makes me think of James Joyce and the short story “Araby” from “The Dubliners”. I have always really liked that story, despite its rather depressing nature. But streams, by themselves, make me think of beer.
A specialist beer shop, run with a great deal of knowledge, enthusiasm and even love for the subject. The owner, Jos, has an encyclopaedic knowledge of beer styles and brands. He is also prepared to give his genuine opinion of any particular beer - even if it’s not a particularly positive one.

It stocks a pretty well complete range of Dutch beers plus most of the Belgian ones. Included are some pretty rare ones, such as Cantillon lambik beers and, when available, the Westvleteren trappists.

The selection of British beers is excellent, surpassing easily what all but the most specialist shops in Britain would have. There is a reasonable range of German beers and with an emphasis on those from Bavaria, though they often have beer from one of the Duesseldorf brewpubs, either Schumacher or Zum Uerige. Every continent is represented and they even have the outstanding Coopers beers from Australia. Recently thay have acquired good contacts with Frankenland and usually have at least a dozen beers from Bamberg and its surroundings.

It’s possible to order small 10 litre barrels of German draught beer and polypins of British cask-conditioned ale. Add to this the most dazzling array of beer glasses Ive ever come across and you have one of the best beer shops youre ever likely to come across.
Tiger, you mentioned a CD entitled “The Good, The Bad, and The Karmic”. Reminds me of a terrific, highly entertaining book on India entitled, “Karma Cola.” I’m sure many here have read it as it was a huge hit (20 years ago  ).

Speaking of good CD’s … the new Fleetwood Mac CD was just released, called “Say You Will.” Even though Christine McVie opted out of this one, it’s still fantastic. It includes 18 songs, 9 each by Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham. Mick Fleetwood is still on drums, and John McVie is still on bass. It’s got some really great songs, like the title track (sung by Stevie), and a really wild, out-there song called “Murrow Turning Over In His Grave” (sung by Lindsey). If any of you out there are Mac fans, I strongly suggest picking up a copy of this one …

Well they shouldn’t
STREAMS OF WHISKEY

Last night as I slept
I dreamt I met with Behan
I shook him by the hand and we passed the time of day
When questioned on his views
On the crux of life’s philosophies
He had but these few clear and simple words to say

I am going, I am going
Any which way the wind may be blowing
I am going, I am going
Where streams of whiskey are flowing

I have cursed, bled and sworn
Jumped bail and landed up in jail
Life has often tried to stretch me
But the rope always was slack
And now that I’ve a pile
I’ll go down to the Chelsea
I’ll walk in on my feet
But I’ll leave there on my back

Because I am going, I am going
Any which way the wind may be blowing
I am going, I am going
Where streams of whiskey are flowing

Oh the words that he spoke
Seemed the wisest of philosophies
There’s nothing ever gained
By a wet thing called a tear
When the world is too dark
And I need the light inside of me
I’ll walk into a bar
And drink fifteen pints of beer

I am going, I am going
Any which way the wind may be blowing
I am going, I am going
Where streams of whiskey are flowing

I am going, I am going
Any which way the wind may be blowing
I am going, I am going
Where streams of whiskey are flowing
Where streams of whiskey are flowing
Where streams of whiskey are flowing

I drank almost 15 beers in a bar once…and I wrote a poem…actually 3 poems…they mostly sucked shit more than I sucked beer…but I did watch the bartender get in an arguement with some hotshit lawyery type. Ha! Lawyer jokes…lol…

Where was I? Oh yeah…that Grandpa Simpson…he can really stream the old conciousness noodle…I need to go to Costco again…I wonder how much I can pack on my new bike…gawd I’m worried about money…sure was nice of Dave to let me slide for a month…NBD, but nice anyway…the new staff sure are nice…always that way at first…first second third home…I miss playing baseball…a little anyway…little…miss…Xia Jie…

Swensons and MacD’s for breakfast. Doesn’t anyone love the Taiwanese breakfasts? Man that’s something I’ll miss when I go back. Even as a vegematarian, I love the Taiwan breakfasts. I used to get a Cheese dan bing and a veggie-burger every morning, but I htought that was overdoing it, so I’ve toned down to salad toast sandwiches, and just the old order in the weekends. Sometimes I go for the traditional ‘yong he dou jiang’ style and get a fan tuan, and a coupel of cai bao dumplings, but oddly enough I prefer that food late at night, for which I need to make a ride down tot he 24-hr breakfast shop district on Fuxing N Rd, umm I mean Fuxing S Rd (that was an N for Nan). Mmmm, looking forward to breakfast already.

Some people would assume that in the average man’s stream of consciousness there is a lot of thoughts about sex. However, reading this thread it seems that the thing on every man’s mind is beer:!: Mind you, some people might be thinking about it, but just a little shy to post it on forumosa.

Scchu has a problem with overposting. Sort of the like the new guy at the party who can’t shut the hell up. If your wife is so hot dude, go pay some attention to her!

Still, his last post (sex, sex, beer, donuts, sex, etc.) was damned funny.

Sandman looks younger than his actual age. Must be well-pickled.

Maoman is the life of the party, without really letting you know he’s the life of the party.

Omniloquacious is articulate and hilarious. I look forward to his posts.

Mother Theresa is a self-righteous liberal, but he reminds me in some ways of my favorite uncle, and I can’t help but like him even when he pisses me off.

Blueface666 is having fun with a lot of you. Chill out.

The people who take random potshots at America are out of line. Oppose wars, policies, decisions, but don’t rip on an entire society. I couldn’t give a shit, but it makes you look like buffons.

I support the war in Iraq for the simple reason that everything I’ve observed and read by and about Colin Powell tells me that while this guy isn’t God, he knows what he’s talking about. In matters of foreign policy, I take his word for it.

Chainsmoker, despite the chainsmoking, is one of the healthiest looking individuals I’ve ever seen.

When I think of Ax, the word I think of is…earnest. Go Anton–you’ve won me over!

That’s all I can think of. Except that I’ve got it good here. Thank you, Taiwan.

Kramer: “Help me, Jerry. Help me!”

What’s with tearing up all those beautiful trees on Chung Gong Road by Ta Hu Lake and up to Dong Hu; I mean give me the MRT, but leave me the birds and the trees please… which brings me to protest music in general

I feel a little too young for this thread!

Beer is off-topic. Can we go back to stream of consciousness please?

But my religion REQUIRES me to mock Christ! You wouldn’t be intolerant of it, are you?
:smiling_imp:

Speaking of the messiah, according to the “Tleilaxu theorem” of Frank Herbert’s “Dune Messiah,”

“Every civilization must contend with an unconscious force which can block, betray, or countermand any conscious intention of the collectivity.”

20 POINTS: Discuss the above quote, with reference to Taiwan politics and culture. Who is Taiwan’s Kwizatz Hararech? Will Taiwan pass its Gom Jabar?

That’ll be me
But my religion REQUIRES me to mock Christ! You wouldn’t be intolerant of it, are you?

Nope, but I am intolerant of BAD English! :smiling_imp:

I’d go back and edit, but then the post wouldn’t qualify as stream of consciousness.

Fox, do you live in Donghu or something? I do, and I haven’t noticed any of that stuff, but I’m usually kind of out of it both when I’m driving by there in the morning and coming home at night… Why can’t I get any Sleater Kinney CDs in Taipei. Lots of record stores have the little card set aside for them which shows that at one time or another they had some. But I guess they’re not really big into re-ordering. Or else Sleater Kinney are really popular here. Oh yea man f-r-i-d-a-y. I’m trying to stay healthy, but there’s a lot of shit on the go. Tonight will go see Urban Nomad Film Festival and catch up with the Hsimen Spiders… they were fun at spring scream and if Ron gets wasted it should be hillarious as well… Beatie Boys on Sunday… woo…hoo. If i don’t start going to work on Mondays I’m gonna lose that cushy job… Weeeii… oh yea I’ll get that file to you A.S.A.P. The fact that I gotta buy an avatar (something that was previously free) pisses me off.

Where exactly is the venue for the Beastie Boys? Seeing as how I got a free ticket, I guess I might as well go for a heckle.
I’ll be at Urban Nomad tonight as well, but only to see the offerings from Timogan, Poagao and Tall Paul (so I’m partisan? So sue me!) and partake of Chainsmoker’s outrageous G&Ts. I just hope he’s bartending again this year.
