I have been studying at Shida for about a year. I have a ARC based on that. I paid for a 1 year ARC, but every 3 months after registering for a new semester I have to physically go to the visa place and apply for a new ARC. I am able to keep renewing it until August 2011. My ARC currently says it expires next month (June 2011), at which time I would have to renew it.
My current resident visa is stamped “used” and is only single entry. It also has “employment prohibited” written on it.
I want to start working in July 2011. According to the other posts that I’ve read, there is no way to get a new visa (for work) while staying in Taiwan since I’m currently here based on a student resident visa/arc. Although one potential employer said it was possible, so I’m not positive (?).
I’ve read that a visa-exempt entry can be converted into a visitor visa -> work ARC, without having to go to an embassy outside of Taiwan.
So finally my question…Can I just let my current student based ARC expire in June 2011 (even though it’s renewable until August 2011), then leave the country and return to get a visa exempt entry -> work ARC? Or do I somehow need to get a my current ARC cancelled by me or the school?
I searched the forum and was unable to find a similar situation with a renewable arc. Hopefully some knowledgeable person can just give me a quick answer. Thanks for your help.
