I am currently eligible to get an ARC because of my student status at NCKU. Right now I’m on a visitor (student, ha!) visa that will run out in early March. (I’ve had both allowed 60 day extensions). Getting (and keeping) an ARC based on my student status would require me to continue to be a full-time student. However, after one more semester as a full-time student I would prefer to work full-time and only study part-time. My question is this:
If I get an ARC now, based on my student status, how difficult will it be to get a work permit and new ARC sponsored by my future employer? Would it be better to get a work-sponsored ARC now, before my visitor visa expires? My main concern is that I’d rather not make a visa run.
Thanks for your help - I checked the archives but couldn’t find a similar situation (plenty of work ARC holders wanting to study though).
Hello, a friend of mine has a student ARC at the moment (valid for another 10 months or so, so no problems with expiry). He wants to start working and a school has offered him a work permit and ARC through them.
My question is this, will he have to do a visa run, or can he change over here?

If he changes over here, how does he go about it?[/quote]
A student visa can not be changed to a work visa in Taiwan. Hong Kong is nice this time of year…
