Studying Mandarin on Visa Exempt

Hi Everyone,

I’m wondering if it is legal to study Mandarin on a Visa Exempt? I get the 90 day stamp on my passport but I’m interested in learning Chinese.

Is there a limit to how many visa runs I can do here? I mean will they stop me from entering the country if I’ve done too many?

Any advice would be much appericated appreciated…

I study Chinese on a visa-exempt (passport only) entry just about every year in Taiwan, though I don’t stay more than 30 days due to obligations abroad.

There doesn’t seem to be any problem with it. You’re right, you would think that with all the “you must do only what your visa purpose states” stuff, it might be, but I suppose that learning Chinese is part of seeing Taiwan, appreciating Taiwanese culture, and all that. Plus, you’re spending money that clearly comes from another source, which is the main idea most of the time (preventing people from working illegally is the main idea behind all those limitations, really.)
