Stupid question: Getting to work

Right, I’ve got a really stupid question: How do I get to work?
I will be working in Xizhi and I know I can get a bus from Kunyang MRT station, but I’ve been looking on train routes and there’s apparently a train station in Xizhi, but although I’ve managed to find many nice maps and information about the station often being flooded, I can’t find any train ticket pricing.
The thing is, I’m not quite sure where I’ll be living as yet, but I might end up in Xinpu as it looks like an affordable area to live in. Hence my plan was to take the MRT to the main station and then a train from there…
But as I don’t know how much this will cost, it’s a plan I can’t really go with…
The other option would be to find a place on the other side of town or somewhere around Da-An as I understand there’s a bus from there or Guting that goes straight out to Xizhi.
Anyhow, if anyone has any ideas, please post a line or two

Thanks once again…

Oh, 7 days to go before I leave the UK!

Dude, if you’re going to be working in Xizhi, you want to live in Lotus Hill.

Dude, you really want to commute right across Taipei every morning?

Go live on the other side of town, or even in Xizhi or out at Lotus Hill.

dude, you’ll quickly realize that comuting from UK every morning will lose some degree of excitment over the weeks, follow those previous 2 advices

The TRA Website lists schedules and prices. A ride from Taipei Main Station to Sijhih (they spell it S.h.i.j.i.) costs between 28 and 37 Taiwan Dollar and it takes between 18 to 22 minutes, depending on what train you take. Though the fast and more expensive one is an express that doesn’t run too often, thus it’s perhaps not suitable for commuting.
If you move to Xinpu you could take the MRT (Xinpu to Kunyang station, then bus) or train (Banqiao to Xizhi station) across town. The latter costs between NTD 36 and 55, and it takes slightly over 30 minutes.

Thanks
Once again very helpful advice.
I’m just looking for alternatives of where I can afford to live, as initially I won’t be making great money due to extra tax and a lower starting wage, which will go up after 3 months if I prove to be as good as I say I am
So something for 20k a month is a little bit out of my price range at the moment…
Still, if I can find something on the right side of town I would of course go for that rather than move to the “other” side of the river.
I’m just trying to keep an open mind on where I can live.
I’m used to traveling to work for over an hour as it is now, as I have to take a bus, a tran and another bus or the underground to get to the office.
My last job took an hour and a half on a good day, one way, and up to three hours on a bad day…
Anyhow, thanks again for the help

Where in Xizhi? If your job is on XinTaiWu Rd then it would be the dreaded No 15 bus from Kuanyang… That bus is a fecking killer in the mornings. Think sardines and elbows. I tried that route for a month or so when I first started working out here… I couldn’t take it.

If you’re a sociable chap then living in Xizhi might not be the place for you to live. Its a royal pain in the ass getting to Taipei and back of an evening (for a well earned beer or three). It can be just as inconvenient at weekends. And taxis ain’t cheap (~350NTD). I tried living out here for two years then retreated back to Taipei. My rent is higher but the extra I pay is saved by what I no longer pay in taxi fares, plus my friends actually visit me now. In Xizhi, I always got the its sooooo far! excuse…

Rental prices in ShitZhi are still pretty low though and (serious) flooding seems to be a thing of the past.

Lotus Hill could be an option but getting from there to XinTaiWu Rd is, again, a royal pain in the ass.

My advice would be to find somewhere on the 907 bus route. I take this on Heping E Rd and it takes me all the way to my office, via the freeway. I can get to work in about 45mins door to door.

Don’t ask me; I just get out of bed and roll downstairs and into the office. On a good day, I’ll remember to put clothes on first.

It seems like the Blue 22 is a good option, at least if I get a place along the blue line MRT.
The office is on Tatong Road, and the Blue 22 stops about 2 min walk from the office from what I’ve been told. I considered Xizhi, but as you say, it’s just too far away from everything and everyone…

From Lotus Hill you could walk down the hill or get the little bus for three minutes, then get an 817 to Datong Lu (this bus goes to different parts of Datong Lu in both directions). There is also a free council minibus which may be suitable. We pay 19k for three bed 2 bath furnished; there are studio kind of places which must be a lot less.

I suppose Donghu is a good bet … cheap and close to Xizhi and Neihu … and Taipei …

Wow, that’s pretty decent rent considering the size of the place, it’s just a shame that it’s so far away… :frowning:
If I could afford to get a car I guess it wouldn’t really be an issue, but that’s not an option at the moment.
How do you get to/from Donghu, as there’s no MRT stop there as yet…

Bus. There are also “colored” busses that connect to the MRT network. Out of my head I think the BR9 connects Donghu to the Brown Line MRT at Fuxing/Nanjing (it also stops on the Red Line at Zhongshan MRT).

Well, that’s cool, but that all stops at midnight… So nights out is a bit of a no no… :frowning:
We’ll see what happens
