Stupid

Stupid where did this word come from?

It’s very unique.

And what

  • is the equivalent word in Chinese or other languages
  • Chinese word or words might indicate the same

Lacking intelligence. Aka all of us. Everyone. We are all pretty stupid when we step back. There likely are truly intelligent, Non stupid, folk around but they are very very rare. Like albino elephants.

it is, as it does?

D’oh…

Seems easier to explain what smart is, then just say stupid is exactly the opposite of that.

My wife says 笨蛋 ben dan.

The dictionary says this means “foolish.” Since I learn all of my derogatory terms and slang from my wife, and I’m biased in her favor, I’m sticking with 笨蛋.

Here’s another one I hear my wife say a lot: 白痴 Báichī means “idiot.” Maybe that’s closer to stupid?

the latest meaning could be a synonym of stupid.

Smart can also mean “well-dressed” and/or “well-groomed”.

Damn, seems less easy now :frowning: the nice thing about being stupid is we are happy being ignorant

This is not under “Learn Chinese”, so let’s add the Google translation below the Chinese.

[Stupid] What do you mean
stupid word modern people tend to put it as silly man, not smart enough, in fact, in ancient times was not a stupid meaning
[stupid] is “Bamboo” and “this” component, referring to the most bamboo That layer of white and soft things inside.
In ancient times, people would use bamboo to make chairs, tables or daily necessities, because it was too soft to use, and it would cut off the stupid.
Later, people described this person as useless and not smart enough, as stupid or stupid.

In fact, stupid is not completely useless. It is a good material for papermaking. There is not a saying: I am born to be useful.
Everything in the world has its uses. If someone says you are stupid next time, you don’t have to be angry.

Don’t be angry, stupid!

So this begs the question. How do we call someone out for lacking intelligence and doing “stupid” things?

Dont tell me moron or idiot are out as well…then i’ll really sound stupid

We could try being the bigger person and just liking the comment without comment?

Ya, i mean more someone just hit your ca s ooter, destroyed somehung of yours etc for no better reason than them being stupid.

I might just start calling people paper.
