Yesterday I walked throught down town Longtan as this story happend.
I was walking on along the side of the fairly busy Zhong1 zheng4 lu4 中 正 路, a four line two direction road going directly through the center of the town. Suddenly I saw this stry dog standing in the middle of the “slower” line on my side, facing the the oncoming traffic with out any fear.
Looking already very old and tiered, he just stood there, looked towards the cars coming and not showing any will to move.
Two or three cars had space and they moved to the inner line (as this is safer in the city anyway) so he survived but than it came as it had to come, a blue truck was on his line and heading towards him. I was still to far away to be able to interfere so I just thought that will be the end of the dog.
And than the unbelievable happend, the blue truck guy stoped, actually he slowed down, honked and everybody seeing that was wondering on one side and thinking that the dog would move now. No chance.
The truck really drove towards the dog and had to stop 10 cm in front of him, the dog not moving at all, just staring at the truck.
I arrived there and some people from the shop next to the place were already ther too, trying to get the dog off the road. First just by going there and “scaring” him off by shouting and making fast movements towards him. He just slowly moved his had towards them and than looked back on the truck, still not moving even one single centimeter.
They carefull started to push him off the road and he started to move a bit than, but looking at them with an expression on the face like “What the hell are you doing, let me stand here, just get me another car”.
So the shop owners gave the dog even some food and when I walked back after about an hour he was peacfully lying in front of the shop. Maybe he got a kind of new home through this.
I am still somehow impressed by this, never thought that a “blue trucker” would break for anything else than a hughe truck or a concret wall and than you have a dog who wants to finish his life and than he meets just right THIS ONE AND ONLY one of this kind of blue trucker on the island.
