“International” surf contest ended in Donghe, Taitung. My sons tell me the surfing wasn’t great, with no internatonal contestants- but the parties were good- less pressure.

Youth Surf Lifesaving Club, Taiwan

Hello,
You are invited to our fun, friendly surf lifesaving club in Kaohsiung City, Taiwan. The West Bay Nippers free surf safety program introduces children (6-11 years old) to surfing and youth surf lifesaving. Everyone is valued and supported regardless of skill level or experience in the surf.

The first official season starts in April and continues through to the middle of October.

Schedule:
Saturday morning and afternoon: Kenting
Sunday afternoon: Kaohsiung

We have a Line Group for updates.

You will learn many skills throughout the program, including surf awareness, performing a surf rescue, and problem-solving.
Please note that West Bay Nippers is not a learn-to-swim program. We strongly encourage you to attend swim lessons.

Before joining West Bay Nippers, all participants must complete three swim tests:
Swim and complete a 25m survival stroke swim test in a swimming pool
Tread Water for 2 minutes in a swimming pool
Signal for help in the water

We are currently training at an indoor swimming pool. Participants will have many opportunities to pass these tests at the pool and the beach.

As with all programs involving young people, the parents/guardians, and volunteers make it a success. We’d love you to volunteer your talents and time to ensure the training activities run smoothly for everyone.
Parents/Guardians can provide support and encouragement in the water with their kids. We need sufficient Water Safety personnel for our water events to go ahead.

Finally, I’d love to hear your feedback throughout the season, particularly on improving the surf safety experience for you and future lifesavers.

Sincerely,
Graeme Charles –

Just found this post and realized there aren’t a lot of resources and discussion around this topic. For future reference, here are some of my favorite resources:

- [SwellEye](https://swelleye.com/en/surf-spots/) this is an amazing tool with surf cams and stuff, I am honestly amazed by it
- Surfer Johnny ([衝浪強尼的部落格｜痞客邦](https://attempttodie1527.pixnet.net/blog)) one of the most popular Taiwanese surfing blogger, but content is only in mandarin
- [Taiwan Open of Surfing](https://www.worldsurfleague.com/events/2023/qs/187/taiwan-open-of-surfing/main) haven’t been to one myself, but would love to go some day
- other blog posts and forums: [here](https://www.laybacktravel.com/surfing-in-taiwan/), [here](https://bluecanoetravel.com/2024/04/27/surfing-taiwan/) and [here](https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attractions-g293910-Activities-c61-t197-Taiwan.html)
