I clearly wasn’t erudite enough in Alleycats then!

Third.

Edit: I misread things. I second Tigerman’s recommendation.

I’m still trying to figure out why it is that people who would normally be civil, even sympathetic, to each other in a face-to-face situation act like such assholes to each other in an online forum.

Is it passive-aggressiveness, fueled by insecurity and cowardice?

Or is it simply human nature?

Why is it that some posters are capable of consistent civility in both their personal and online lives, and others are not?

Early in my online posting days, I got so angry that I physically threatened another poster. We later met in person and became friends. I like to think we both learned from that experience, that we’re both more civil when posting now.

Perhaps we’d do well to remember that people we know in real life probably won’t have a problem with anything we post online, but those who don’t know us personally might not understand the sarcasm/wit we’re attempting to display here. I could list a dozen posters who are fine, worthwhile people in real life, but who often scare away or offend folks here online. What gives?

Are you kidding? I am getting nothing but wonderful, friendly offers from people. One guy offered to buy me a one-way plane ticket back home, another guy propositioned me with some very kinky sex with his umbrella and simply wanted to know where I lived so he could perform the act. Another guy is such a big fan of mine, he keeps coming back to flirt with me, despite having been banned six or seven times and is not even living in the country to begin with.
I tell you, anyone who says that foreign women in Taiwan don’t get any action are just looking in the wrong places. I have to fight them off with a stick.

Literally.

There was a pretty relevant CSM article about the problems with communicating by E-mail, and I think the same ideas apply to online forums.
Seems that quite a few of the suspended Formosans end up on the barren shores of the sparsely populated isle of Taiwanho.com.
Is Taiwanho becoming the “Australia” of the Taiwan cyber world, a place of criminals cast out from the Motherland?
Ouch! :bravo:
