🏊 Swimming - How Was Your Swim Today?

I’ve been thinking about getting into swimming lately, as it seems like a great full-body workout. My aim is to get to a level where I swim for 30min-1hr most days of the week to stay healthy. However, my swimming skills are fairly limited. I’ve never received any formal training and, on top of that, haven’t swam in probably half a decade.

I was thinking about getting 1-on-1 lessons. If I get them in the Taipei area, any recommendations? I live in 中山區, so was thinking Rongxing Swimming Pool. It’s a 15 minute walk away from me. Is that a good facility? There and the NTNU pool, another candidate, have lessons for $15k for 10 hours 1-on-1.

Maybe more bang-for-buck in doing a group lesson first and then the 1-on-1 lessons afterwards?

There is also the 中山運動中心, but you seem to be knowledgeable about which swimming pools are near you.

I think getting lessons are a great idea. Swimming is so technical, you really need someone pointing out how to do things correctly and where you’re messing up. I’ve heard it compared to a combination of running and golf (aerobic ability plus technique).

I doubt you can find a group lesson for adults, but maybe I’m wrong about that. YMCA teaches kids in groups and they do a great job.

Ideally, you would find an instructor with competition experience but maybe that’s not so critical at this initial stage.

Good luck!
