I have a volume control in my system tray, on my music software and on external speakers. Which combination of max…min volume settings should give the best quality? Should it matter?
Individual settings shouldn’t matter, it’s the overall results of all three that makes the difference. And it depends on how good your speakers are.
The system tray volume controls the “master volume” whereas applications usually control the “wave” or “cd player” volume depending on the source of the audio. (“wave” audio is computer generated audio, the name is confusing.) Depending on your sound card and the application there may be other volume settings as well. If you double click on the volume control it’ll bring up a panel with all the volume settings.
Personally, I find the computer volume controls to be confusing and non-intuitive, so I just put them all to max and use the volume knob on the speaker system. It’s always in the same place, and it doesn’t take several seconds to pop up if the system is slow.
