Tablet (PC) Buying Advice?

Reposted from forums elsewhere globally and a headslap for overlooking posting here

Hi All
I’m on a PC with ##### sticky keys so will keep this short. Sorry if I’m abrupt.

Moved to Taiwan 2 study Chinese and need a tablet PC – Don’t think notebook will do. Hoping 4 advice as I have 0 Chinese and limited tablet knowledge. Makes things hard

Needs:
USB (Can use USB quad port if only 1 on tablet 4 keyboard/mouse etc)
Not break budget
Chinese language apps => English Chinese/Pinyin Character Dictionary. Also character training. Other useful stuff
Wireless to access Uni Net.
Sturdy
Reliable
Lite

Prob. Highly Desireable:
SD Card Reader
Map
GPS
Direct handwrite capability -> pen paper effect
Windows => Yes raspberries inbound I know. Never used Android + brought 1 windows MP game
DVD Writer => Okay not happening but … Maybe pendrive copy to PC and PC2DVD burn? Have 2 see.

Prob. overlooking stuff but brain’s freezing up. Gone from 30 degree sweatbox last week to present barely 10 degrees. Prac. snowing! Yes your heart bleeds I know. … Must be cold. PC Froze - Had 2 retype all :frowning: Hope didn’t forget too much

Ruled out iPlod. ‘Cheap’ but fails needs. Also Mac :frowning: Anything else? Have to pick something up couple weeks hence this post.

Browsed a few places here but it’s hard – no Chinese. Seen 4 that meet all/some needs.
Acer Iconia Tab W500 ($19,900 ~ AU$660-800)
Asus Eee Pad Slider SL101 ($18,900 ~ AU$630-760)
Asus Eee Slate B121 ($44,900 ~ AU$1500-1800)
Sony SGPT111TW/S (or 112 or 113) ($?)

Slate nice but too dear :frowning: Iconia might do and meets needs but heard Acer=overspecced crap. True? Also heard sturdy built so? Supposed to be able to run Freelancer. Would need keyboard+mouse but would need 4 home use anyhow.

Any & all advice, suggestions … appreciated, if in English

I found three stores that sell various tablets in Taichung - Lvl 9 Shin Kong Mitsokoshi, Taisuco, and a yellow store with the Windows logo almost in their Chinese name but which doesn’t seem to have an English name, the barbarians. I mean what are they thinking not having an English name in a non-English speaking country

Only tablets/pads with a usb are made by Asus.

I got an Asus eesee slide reader thing… Is it a tablet? is it a laptop? Who knows???

It even has a keyboard.

The selling point was the USB, the keyboard was an added bonus (it slides n hides whenya want it to be a tablet!)

Only thing in the world like it.

Asus also has a latop where the screen comes off, soya have a tablet whenya want. Butya gotto buy them seperately

EDIT

And you can find everything at Nova on Gongyi rd (not too far offa Zhongming nan lu) since you are in Taichung (as am I)

And my eepad slider, LOVE IT so far. It doesnt fully replace a laptop but so far seems to come close
