Taichung for night and one night only

I am in Taichung for a night.

I don’t know the city at all.

Any recommendations for restaurants, pubs, things to do (in the evening), etc…?

Thanks,

While I’m not a bar guy at all, I’ve heard that Pig Pen and the Londoner aren’t too bad. Dunno how hopping they would be on a school night, though. There’s always the 2nd-run movie theater (it’s in a decaying shopping mall about 200 m away from the train station; go past the McDonald’s that you see from the front station).

Fatty’s Italian Restaurant is pretty good, in my estimatioon. Grandma’s Thai Restaurant ain’t that great, however.

Spent Saturday night in The Pig Pen.

A fe observations:

  1. The police busted the place and was as interested in my Danish drivers license as they would be in touching an AIDS patient.
  2. People dance in rows facing the band like in Korea, not with each other.
  3. A Carlsberg is NT$150 - expensive, a pack of smokes is NT$80.
  4. All 5 foreigners in Taizhong will be there, all frustrated and looking for row-dancing girls.

Restaurantwise, then you could try out the huge place build of driftwood. The food is good, and the decoration is well thought out and truly unique. Some forumosans living in Taizhong will have to help out with the name and address of the place.
