Ouch…at least not getting completely screwed out this time…599 for non citizens for Taichung inner-city transit. Great if you go hiking in Guguan a lot since it’s still in Taichung but pretty far away.
Kaoshiung just says $399 for inter-city travel pass…doesn’t mention it being limited by nationality/residency…what’s up with that?
Also…it’s just so interesting how many friends I have who have lived in Taichung for 10+ years but still have their household registration listed in other cities.
OK I griped about this differential fare situation with a Taiwanese friend, who told me I got it wrong—that the discount involved does not distinguish between citizen / noncitizen but between folks with HHR in Taichung and those without (even citizens without). I replied that no foreigners have HHR, so that immediately would exclude us. Still I was left wondering if the Focus Taiwan story presented the fare situation accurately . . .
I looked at the Chinese version which specifically states city residents, i.e. ROC Nationals with HHR in Taichung for this 300nt price. Still though, issue remains that foreigners living in Taichung don’t get any of the free rides unless married to a local with Taichung. HHR or are an International Student.
Seems like it will be cheaper for the Central Taiwan transportation pass that covers Miaoli, Taichung, Nantou, and Changhua for city “residents” at a price of 699 a month instead of the 999 month. Only 100 more than the 599 for non-Taichung residents for just the inner city pass.
I paid like CAD$50 or something for the TPASS easycard option thinking I needed to get it to do the first 30 minutes free on bikes. I never took transit other than first day to my place. I love the bikes. Then when it expired, i’m like what is the use? Then I found out without the TPASS I either have to wait 15 minutes between rides, or switch docks (not always a quick option depending where you are). I like the quick succession use of bikes, but not really interested in transit. Cad$50 monthly just to be able to use bikes like that without cooldown does seem kind of high. Is there an option that lets me use bikes like this that is cheaper but maybe doesn’t include the unlimited transit rides? Still waiting for my license test so this could be a moot point soon but might still be worth it.
Hey, at least I put CAD$ it’s just the currency I think in natively lol but I understand what you meam, i’ll use NT instead from now on. That’s about NT$1176
EDIT: converted NT to CAD then CAD back to NT, lol so Taiwan’s fee is flat NT$1200 for TPASS when I bought.
I’m not sure about this. Maybe they would have to propose a limited use pass for only youbikes or something else, like buses. Not everyone uses the MRT.
Problem is relying on buses is worse than youbike, because oftentimes it’s faster to youbike than taking the bus. Those apps/information board are often inaccurate as hell, as in they have different schedules.
But if you only use youbike, Tpass would be a waste of money, unfortunately they don’t have youbike only pass.
It was def free for the first 30 minutes to just use my 悠遊卡 that had ~300 NTD on it starting in March? Or something. I’ve never had the monthly pass because I don’t take enough transit to make it worth it
Still is, but there is a 15 minute cool down to re-rent free if no TPASS unless you go to a different dock.
Central America is a type of America. So, yes? Same as considering a Canadian an American as North American. It’s technically valid but your mileage may vary lol and I’ve never considered myself American either, though many have thought I am.
Already aiming to buy a motorcycle which is technically not neccessary, I don’t want to own a bicycle here as well lol and every bike I’ve owned in Toronto has been stolen smh it’s so rampant there it turned me off bike ownership. I use the public bikes even back home too, which are decent, like cad$80 for the whole year or NT1880, maybe a little over NT2K with tax. They also limit you to 30 minutes even with full paid subscription, and start charging you after 30 minutes. Crackheads even steal those and keep them like their personal bikes smh lol
