Just one question, since when does 讚 = TOP, or is even a real word to begin with? I guess we can thank facebook for some new slang. But in all honesty, why didn’t they write “Like” instead of “TOP”. I mean, someone could have easily just switched the language on their FB to get the right word. As a matter of fact, I just did that now because I wasn’t sure exactly which zhan4 it was. I was all excited with everything, thinking it was perfect until I saw that.
Anyone else enjoy the fireworks? I was pretty loaded outside of S.Y.S. Good times.

I guess that’s why I couldn’t find it when I typed ‘zhan’, damn Taiwanese people with their inability to pronounce zh correctly and me guessing at it wrong hahaha, even though I’m pretty sure the Mandarin tone is 4. Must be one of those Taiwanese -> Mandarin let’s use a random character situations.
A little aside, when I first learned how to say cockroach, my friend taught me ‘zanglang’, so naturally I thought it was 髒狼, dirty wolf.
If you watch at the end of the fireworks, they have the 讚 with a Facebook-like thumbs-up, trying to be 很飛身 and all. That’s why I’m confused why it says “TOP” instead of “Like”. It’s like they ALMOST got it all perfect. 2 years ago was Taiwan LP (the U was messed up for a few seconds) and now this TOP stuff. Taiwan Bravo, Taiwan NEXT, Touch Your Heart, I could go on forever. I was so excited that it was finally perfect until that.

Actually the Taiwanese 2nd tone is like the Mandarin 4th. As far as I know though characters that are 2nd tone in Taiwanese aren’t 4th tone in Mandarin, but 3rd tone, so it may be a bit random. It’s commonly used though.

I was right underneath the building. It was some countdown device of some sort like to get people pumped up. Looked like one of those remote controlled toys is all. Maybe the size of a textbook.
The fireworks at 101 are getting to be a real bore. I can’t tell any difference between one year and the next (for this reason, I guess it’s actually essential for them to show the year in lights on the 101 building). How about changing the venue now and again, or would that require - god forbid - some semblance of creativity at City Hall.
I thought they were good. Not as good as 10/10, but still good. We were on the north-east side where it wasn’t too crowded. We hesitated about getting off the MRT at Sun-Yat-Sen like most people did, then figured out why when we realised City Hall was closed. Walked back from the next stop and ended up on the wrong side for walking home after. Never mind, next year, next year…

Yep, it’s ‘very fashion’, which they can’t say correctly and it comes out like ‘fei shen’…even though it should be fashionable but that’s a different issue.
