Hey all. Does anyone want to tell me where people are going to gather to watch the fireworks blow up Taipei 101? A lot of us are coming from out of town and only get one crack at choosing a spot.
I think we’re hoping to find a place outdoors, a little off the ground so we can see over a few buildings. A mountain lookout or a carpark would be good enough I hope… but which one?
We are going to the temple in muzha, up behind jendda university. You can either hike up or drive up. Sorry no directions, if i tried to explain, you would certainly get lost!
Elephant Mountain off Xin-Yi E. Rd. Sec 6 is an excellent vantage point, but space is limited and I would imagine the local locals would be squatting on the good spots from noon on that day.
For what it’s worth, running south not far from the Xin-Yi / Gee-Long Rd intersection is a street called Jwang-Jin Rd. Just a half block down on it is a grassy knoll type mound thing park type area. The local news yesterday evening had a bit about where people would be watching the fireworks from, where wouldn’t be bad, and pointed it out. By early evening the area is going to be crawling though.
I had lunch at Chili’s today, in the 101 neighborhood, and workers are also putting up temporary scaffold seating all over.
Do NOT go there. I was there last year. Arrived there around 10:30PM and was able to get a space with a nice view. But the fireworks lasted all of 3 minutes (and I missed half of it because I had a wide-angle lens on my camera, mistakenly thinking that it would be a regular fireworks show, not just on 101.) Once it was over, it took me at least two hours to get out of that area. Then I mistakenly thought there would be a train back to Yilan around 2 or so. The next train wasn’t until 4:30 or so, on one of those butt-ass slow dianche’s, which I had to stand up in for two and a half hours.
Dragonbabe tells me the show will only last 3 minutes. Oceans of people, nightmarish parking and traffic, for a brief, forgettable show.
Well, maybe 3 minutes is on the short side. But I’d rather they spent all that money on a few really spectacular minutes than spreading it more thinly over half an hour or so.
Sounds like a good show. Enjoy it, everyone!
I think I’ll be checking out the Taichung City Government show (pop music plus some fireworks) at the athletics stadium. No parking worries as I live fairly near there.
Go up to Maokong and enjoy from one of the teahouses up there. Since you probably don’t know how to get there just drive or somehow get to Muzha or Muzha Zoo MRT Station and take a taxi up (around Nt200). Below is my thread on the teahouses. There are pics of namecards you can print out. Taxi drivers know the area. I would go to number 3. 4 is also good. 2 or the Cat Got Nothing to Do cafe which is nearby would be great too but I don’t have a card for it, and I am afraid that number 2 on the thread is the wrong card (as it is the same as number 6). Anyway, 3 will give you a superb view over the city.
Okay, yes, number 2 (PLC Tea Tavern) has the wrong card. Heres’ the address:
33 Lane 38, Zhinan Road Sec. 3
Phone: 2939 9706
The name is Hong2mu4wu Xiuxian2 Cha2guan3.
I would get dropped off here then walk a couple minutes to the right (when facing PLC) to the Cat Cafe. It’s just a setting of tables on a patch off the side of the road. Very pleasant actually and, as you can see in the pics in the thread, outstanding views of Taipei 101.
Wow. I’m sorry to hear some people had a bad time. I’ve heard the opposite from other people so I’m still going to try to check it out. I’m not going to try to escape Taipei. We’ll head to a club for some drinks after. I just want to make sure I find a place where I can see 'em.
I’m worried if I’m too far away… the clouds could stuff me. I need to find that happy medium. At least I have some good leads. Thanks a lot y’all.
Please keep posting if you have more ideas because I’m sure lots of people could use the info.
