Taipei Chess Club - Wednesdays

Okay, the meeting is off again. Sorry about the conflicting messages.

We’ll see about next week.

[quote=“Betelnut”]Hey, everyone. It looks like people can make it this Wednesday after all.

We should have at least 2 boards, so if you decide to come, please bring your own board if you have one.

Right now, we have at least 3 players.

Hey Betelnut…just found your post about your weekly Chess on Wednesday. Great that this is restarting, formed a Chess club like ages ago. In any case, will try to make it next week now. And will bring my chess sets–have like 3 of them, if you need more chess boards just tell me.

Good luck & thanks,

Philip

It looks like there will be some people going tonight, so please come if you can and bring chess sets.

Hi. I’m back in town with several new games. We’ll be meeting tomorrow (Wednesday) 6:30 at Alleycats (Huashan).

We will be meeting at JB’s next Wednesday at 6:30 P.M.

The address is Shi-Da Rd. No. 148. South of Roosevelt Rd… MRT exit is Taipower Building Exit 4.

We should have around 6 people this week, so please come if you can.

Also please let me know, if Shi-Da Rd. is a more convenient location for you than Alleycats (Hua-Shan).

3 BIG YESses.
The trafel before stopped me from going again but this is so much closer. I still owe 1000 on drinks but only if Chaon goes.
and I demand a rematch. I haven’t been practicing much but still…

I hope it’s okay if I go and watch. I don’t know much about chess but I saw them play it on Harry Potter. It looks awesome.

You just want to drink beer…but that’s OK. Can’t say that I am going for any other reason. It gives me an excuse to get out of the house.

Yes, it’s all about the beer. They have Abbot Ale, ciders, Belhaven, Stella, and the rest of the usual.

Glad to hear you guys can make it.

They also have a TV :sunglasses: and some really nice food (not that I am complaining about alley cats at all)

JB’s is a much more convenient venue, so if I miss tonight it is because I have a sick 20-month old and a 8 month pregnant wife at home who might need my attention and care. Will try my best to be there even if just for a beer.

I had a great time at the chess club last night. It made me realize how long it has been since I have been bowling.
ha ha
I hope I can learn how to play the Chinese chess sometime.

A newcomer here. Is there a gathering this Wednesday as well? Alleycats or JBs? (Refusing facebook, so cannot see the FB group).

From the tone of this thread, it sounds like it is more about beer than chess though…?

The guys that played were really serious. They looked pretty good. They had regular chess plus a lot of other different kinds.

Yes, we are meeting tomorrow at 6:30 P.M. at JB’s. Shi-Da Rd. No. 148 just north of Roosevelt Rd. and Taipower building exit no. 4.

We have good Western and Xiangqi players.

It is seriously about chess. There is the odd person, like me, who enjoy beer more, but this is all chess.

Thanks for coming everyone. We had a fairly new crowd tonight.

Yep it was pretty nice, at least one gets to play some decent chess in Taipei with like-minded players.
Look forward to next week!

I had a good time as well, and met some interesting people. Yesterday was a bit more about variants than real chess though. With rook-knight drops and whatnot

I was one of the people who said that JB’s iscloser and now I haven’t been there for the chess yet
Reason:
My wife is expecting our second any time now and I am having a hard time leaving her at home alone with our 2 year (almost) old. Besides, I had a practice game against my two year old and he threw my beer over the chess board when he lost. Bad loser :fume: Promise to be there soon.
