Hello, I’m wondering if anyone has worked here before. I’d like to hear about the overall conditions there especially in regards to workload/work life balance. I have an interview upcoming with the school.
I don’t know that much, I knew one guy who was working there, but haven’t had contact with him in like 7 years. He seemed to make it out as an okay place to work. But it is a Christian school, so you’ll have to be willing to accept that culture of the school if you want to fit in.
Be aware that a lot of Christian schools tend to have very direct “are you sufficiently Christian for us?” questions in their interview process. I don’t know about Kuei Shan, but I know Morrison does. I’ve also seen job postings for Christian schools in the US with questions like “what role does the Bible play in your life?” and “who is Jesus Christ to you?”. I would suggest you answer those sorts of questions honestly, but I imagine they won’t get you the job if honest answers don’t make it clear that you’re an evangelical Christian. Just a heads up.
Kuei Shan is not too Christian compared to Morrison. They read a daily bible story to kids and have some faith lessons, but its not too religious.

Good to know. I remember seeing they needed a substitute teacher and the daily pay was like NT7000 or something that stuck me as “very not bad”. But Beitou is a tad far for me…
its not beitou, the elementary is near mingde station.
their middle school is near zhishan.
beitou is probably weigo
Good to hear thanks, I have no issues with religious schools.
Yes, quite high pay so I hope it’s a good place to work! (and hope they will offer me a job)
those are both still in Beitou District of Taipei City, not necessarily just near Beitou or Xinbeitou stations.
It’s Tianmu, so I think its actually Shilin
the elementary is beitou district, middle school is shilin.
I didn’t realize they had a split campus. If it’s on the west side of that one stream, then it’s Beitou, if on the east side, then it’s Shilin, but splitting hairs now, lol…
Anyway, curious to know some stuff about the school… can you please let us know about the salary? also, do they run on the local school schedule, or do they qualify as a real international school and are able to run on a more American style school schedule? by which I mean for the calendar year.
edit: this link below seem to indicate that they follow the local MOE school year schedule.

I wouldn’t say to stay away because you might be able to tolerate it and the pay could be worth it for you. I would say to go into your interview with questions about work/life balance and see how they respond. Then see what they offer you and make your decision from there.
Definitely go to the school and check out their facilities. They are very traditional (still use chalkboards).
I used to work there so you can message me if you have any further questions.
