Taipei (Minor) Planet

I was born in Taipei (the city, not the planet) and I find this a bit egotistical. Why not name it Mazu or something?

Jesus. :unamused: Read beyond the headline:

[quote]NCU’s Graduate Institute of Astronomy has discovered over 800 asteroids. “Taipei” is the 27th that has been named and the 10th named after a Taiwanese county or city.

The other nine are “Chiayi,” “Nantou,” “Chungli,” Taoyuan," “Miaoli,” “Kaohsiung,” “Tainan,” “Taichung” and “Penghu.”[/quote]

Look at all those inconsistent romanizations… how are astronauts supposed to find their way around?

It prevents space debris from hitting planet Taipei.

Notice the order of “county” and “city”. Chinglish.

Seems next in line is [strike]Danshui[/strike] [strike]Danshuei[/strike] [strike]Tamshui[/strike] Tamsui and then when it’s renamed again it will affect the whole Solar as well as the MRT system.

Cue Chinese protests for using this name for a minor planet, as opposed to a moon of some object named “China”.

It should be called Non-Chinese Taipei!

They should save the name Yunlin for the most boring planet they can find.
