Is flying from Taipei to Tokyo always quite expensive? An internet search of many airlines came up with the lowest fare of $10,000NT. That seems kind of excessive, but I guess some places are just expensive. Will I have better luck with airfare if I go to a travel agent? Does anyone have experience with this particular trip?

Yes, you are probably better off w/ travel agent. Also, it is expensive when you are doing airfare only. Look into hotel as well, sometimes the packages are cheaper this way!
