Taitung (台東?) Buddha Fruit (釋迦) festival?

Hi all,

Today’s Taiwan News posted this tantalizing article:
etaiwannews.com/etn/news_con … ?id=367368

About Taitung (台東?) shijia festival, but neglected to include dates, locations, etc.

Does anyone here know anything about it? So far, I’ve only been able to turn up this press release:
taitung.gov.tw/chinese/news/ … ?n_id=7952

but it seems equally light on actual information. (Or maybe I’m just missing it.)

Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I’d really love to go.

Thanks!

Don’t know when it is, but my wife was down over to Hualien last week and brought me back a bottle of schnapps made from it. Bloody nice! I advise you to look for that if you make it down there.

!! I’m speechless. Now I must go to this festival!

aah, custard apples!

My wife just said it’s January 20-21, everyone is invited to Beinan to eat the Boedha fruit.

Thank you, that’s a good start. But does she know where in Beinan? I assume there’s a specific address or field, but can’t find it in that document.

I guess that Beinan isn’t that big a town … and when they advertise it, they will have some kind of signs pointing to it … but, ok I admit that it’s still Taiwan and you’re never sure about straight forward things …

BTW, if nothing’s coming up I’ll be there …

There will be free shuttle buses running from the town centre to various spots in the area, including the Beinan Cultural Park, the Chulu Pasture, the Chihpen Hot Spring resort and the local botanical gardens.

Ah, sweetsops (and their hybrid cousin, the atemoya)!

I like custard apple. It is very nice.

I’ll be down east this weekend …

Me too! We’ve already booked plane tickets. Thanks to everyone who helped figure this out!

I’m in Hualien at the moment … any takers?

Good luck and have fun!

I’ve been to the ‘festival’ but it was something pretty local stuff, not that interesting … went the second day in the afyernoon and half of the stalls were empty … there was a stage, but nothing going on there except from some local youths doing breakdancing and the area star presenting whatever quiz and games … actually pretty much dissapointing.
But with that said it’s made up on the other 4 days we traveled along highway 9 and 11 down and up the east coast, and at Jhihben hotsprings area … and going through Taroko, over Hehuanshan … which was cold … only 2C … more on another thread I’m going to start with some pics … and later a video link

Here are the pics I made on the buddha fruit ‘festival’ …

From all the stands … just one old guy was selling the fruit … this is what the festival was about …
