Taiwan 2029?

Where do you see Taiwan in 10 years? Will its economy go on the same trajectory as Japan or will it become the Switzerland of the east that they dream of? Will China succeed in gobbling up Taiwan or will there be another failed ballot to change Olympics team name to Taiwan?

Great question!

So in 2029, Taiwan will look like Blade Runner. Except with flying scooters. Of course that means traffic will be even more dangerous than usual.

Everyone will have a synth helper, basically a robot that does housework and looks after the kids. The problems with the first models were worked out in the 2X model, and they no longer kill the kids they’re supposed to watch. At least not as often.

STDs will have been eliminated since everyone will have VR sex like in ā€˜Demolition Man’ and we will all talk with something called Google Voice that can modulate even the nerdiest voice into something sexy and deep. Of course it has no setting for Taiwanese, so many people in the countryside complain about this. As of 2029, Google doesn’t care.

Pai Bing-Bing will be President for some reason. The great betelnut riots led to widespread death and red splatters of destruction in the streets of Kaohsiung when she tried to ban betelnuts in 2028. Eventually some company came up with a way to vape it and everyone was happy enough.

As for things that will never change, you will still be posting on forumosa. Taiwanese food will still suck and cram school teachers will still get paid 600 NTD an hour.

Under the water. Lots of lava and dead. Ironically @Icon will survive all of us but will be totally deranged, mumbling something like ā€œI told you, we were going to dieā€ and ā€œI told you, I saw sunshine this morningā€.

Her cats won’t make it though.

It’s 2019 and I’m not even excited anymore when I see those scooters flying. At the beginning it was partly funny, partly infuriating to see them, but now I’m too used to it.

Each day on the news, they show a clip of one crashing into a building. They really need to do something about it…

I was going to say I never saw that, and then a car accident came to mind…

I swear I could have seen some fly today.

Though they could’ve just been fast enough to generate lift. Who knows!
