Taiwan - China Flights Row

This could be interesting.

Can’t see how anything good can come out of that move for Taiwan. Short term the people they’ll hurt most are Taiwanese trying to get to Taiwan for CNY, long term you can bet your ass China will have the last laugh.

From what I read, China-Taiwan flights are small potatoes for China’s airlines but important business for Taiwan’s airlines. A tit-for-tat will hurt EVA, etc more than China.

What a curious broken backed argument (such as it is) in the Diplomat piece linked above, written by a former spokesman for the Ma presidential office. On the one hand, he calls for Tsai to rearrange her policies regarding China (OK, I get this so far), then calls for a freezing of the DPP’s Independence clause, presumably to show good will to Beijing. Then he notes that the Chen presidency tried to do something similar – “Yet [Chen] found his goodwill caused no positive response from the mainland.” So tell me again what is this man’s point?
