Hello, can you please tell me the name of some Taiwan Chinese learning software…
I have been told there are at least two local companies/publishers producing CD ROM software or book/CD ROM combinations to learn Mandarin…
Thank you very much, Have a great weekend!
Far East have a variety of Chinese learning software.
I use the Far east 3000 character CD Rom for learning characters.
You might want to have a look at the software produced by these people:

Thank you for your comment…
It will be interesting to see if there are any others (software) on this island of 25 million people!

Craig,
Early in my Chinese studies I made the mistake of buying the Far East 3000-Character Dictionary with a CD. I also got some other local stuff I don’t even remember the names of. I spent quite a lot of money on it, and it was all terrible.
The only software you want for learning Chinese is Pleco and/or Wenlin.
Trust me, you don’t want to use any Taiwanese software unless you have no choice. Maybe something has changed recently, but I don’t think it did.
If you want to check Taiwan-specific pronunciation, use this online dictionary:

Far east 3000 Characters includes the Bo Po Mo Fo which I prefer to Pin yin.
If I want to learn romanisations I’d move to Europe.
Running it from a CD-ROM was the only thing that turned me off at first. However, you can create an ISO and run it from your Hard-drive that way.
I actually made a video demo so you can judge for yourself if it has any use or not.
I use it in connection with Rosetta Stone which is an excellent training program that focusses on immersion but it does not offer Bo Po Mo Fo.
The other thing I use is ABBYY fine-reader with Chinese character recognition and a screen reader program that turns everything I see in Rosetta into written text with a single mouse click.
Finally, I use IBM Viavoice Chinese. I dictate the sentences I hear i Rosetta . The goal is to repeat it till the software recognizes my speech and then save it for training the Viavoice software as well.
So Viavoice and I improve simultaneously, that’s the idea
