Taiwan Chunghua Minguo

So, is Lu Xiulian (Annette, her buxiban teacher called her) a genius or what?

But “Taiwan ROC” as a name is a bit awkward. What is it in unabbreviated form? Taiwan comma Republic?

Next I hope they make a new flag. On the same principle, they should just replace the KMT star with the yellow tiger in the blue jack.

You mean the Yellow Tiger that I use as my avatar right?

As we all must know by now Vice Pres. Lu suggested in SF as part of the non-political “layover” in the USA. That Taiwan be officially called “Taiwan Republic of China”

The DDP is not happy at all over the suggestion.

Moderate TI supporters thinks the timing was all wrong.
Extreme TI supporters thinks the suggestion is not forceful enough.

I think it you really want to add Taiwan to the title is should be “Republic of China, Taiwan”

Taiwan ROC???

How controversial, your moron.

There’s a political grammar issue here that doesn’t come across in the translation. If Taiwan is a part of the ROC, then ROC would come first. If Taiwan is the ROC, then the way Lu did it is right.

(reply to Hobart)

Yep, that’s the one. As a technical matter, they’d better make the jack about twice as big, otherwise the tiger would be too hard to see. (Plus the flag would look cooler that way.)

My point is that just as Lu’s name suggestion attempts to compromise between the two sides, the same might be done with a flag as well.

Another possibility would be to start using the Yellow Tiger flag alongside the ROC one, the way U.S. states do with their flags. Then in the future, or at political rallies, the ROC one could be quietly dropped.

At the Taipei Times there was a proposal to run Lu’s suggestion as a front-page story. I was so appalled by yet another example of “Taiwan is cuddly like Hello Kitty” Lu and the stupid things that come out of her mouth that I banished it to page three. “Good job” said one of the senior copy editors. “Lu should never go further forward than page 3.”
As to what is wrong with Lu’s tom-foolery, I endorse the TSU critique, so I won’t waste space by duplicating it here.

TSU never liked to support anyone with moderate views on the subject of TI. Annette Lu was offering an olive branch to the other side. I’m surprise that she’s being lamblasted by her own party for moving in that direction. Granted everything is wrong about her suggestion. But at least she’s trying to find a middle ground.

First off what is this TI, do you mean Taiwan Independence? Taiwan is already independent and not a part of your Communist Motherland the PRC.

Now stop pretending to be all warm and fuzzy for Taiwan’s Vice President Lu now? Someone once told me that Chinese never vote for anyone that is not a Chinese or at least a KMT China Nationalist Party member, so I am guessing that was fake pity for this Taiwanese VP. If you ask me it is the Chinese that have the ethnic problem because there sure were a hell of a lot of Taiwan ren that voted for those Chinese Lien and Soong.

Anyway, stop faking it AC, we know you hate everything that is Green.

Not true I love 'em Benjamins. But I do detest everything about TI.

I beleive that was started by LTH and CSB during the last campaign propoganda speech. It was very catchy “Taiwanese vote Taiwanese, Mainlander vote Mainlander.” Glad to see you’re dumb enough to believe that.

Acid_crybaby wailing again.

The last propoganda speech?

WWWWWAAAAHHHHHHHHHH.
