Stage trucks have been popular in Taiwan for pass forty years. To be the mobile “carriers” exploited by the performing groups still active and widespread in Taiwan’s plebeian. They have regular appearances in all sorts of occasions─from weddings, funerals to festivals. Most of which are in Yunlin , Chiayi and Tainan areas. From the flower-plaque trucks decorated with plain-color that carry a woman’s band with keyboard,
to the likes of electronic floats or foldable mobile hydraulic trucks we see today, those Taiwanese colors and cartoon patterns they carry, and the techniques: science in materials, power, mechanics, electrics machinery, industrial design ……they use, all above make stage trucks Taiwanese transformer, a magic legend in rural area. However, stage trucks are intimate invention bred by Taiwan’s agricultural and rural culture.
These kinds of performing groups to the general public impression are often relegated to “strip ensembles”. Actually the performing groups have a wide array of other shows, besides the main cabaret in early days, such as pole dancing, acrobatics, magic, folk arts, large-scale music show, or even man strip shows or drag shows can also been seen. Different kinds of performers have elaborate division of labor.
