Taiwan Defense Act

There’s a new bill about Taiwan proposed by Republican congressman Mike Gallagher.

A BILL To maintain the ability of the United States Armed Forces to deny a fait accompli by the People’s Republic of China against Taiwan, and for other purposes.

Not a concrete commitment to Taiwan’s aid, but instead asks for the DoD to maintain its capability to defend Taiwan if needed.

US maintains the capability now.

This act makes a public political international statement.

Will open the door for more exchanges maybe some dedicated funding possibly even military access/presence in Taiwan like ships and planes visiting.

It’s all just talk. If the US wants to make a public statement why don’t they call the AIT an Embassy and ask Taiwan to open an “embassy” in the US? Scared of big brother …

Yeah, exactly.

I would declare Yilan a US territory and station the Pacific fleet there.
