Come on now, everyone knows there is no organized crime in Taichung and game rigging is unheard of in Taiwan.
[quote]Taiwan on Friday denied that Cuba lost Thursday’s Intercontinental Cup baseball game to Taiwan after having been allegedly threatened by gangsters to fix the game.
“There was absolutely no such a thing,” Chris Day, spokesman for the Chinese-Taipei Baseball Association, told Deutsche Presse-Agency dpa.
Police at Taichung, where the game was played, also denied gangsters had intimidated the Cuban team.
“We have launched an investigation into the rumours, but found no evidence,” Wu Chi-jui, deputy director of the Taichung Police Bureau, told reporters.
Taiwan press reported Thrusday that there were rumours that gangsters, who had organized underground betting on the outcome of Thursday evening’s game between Cuba and Taiwan, had ordered the Cuban team to lose the game.

The wifey was talking about this yesterday. She said that it was the big news in the office on Friday. Apparently, from the local news media, it seems quite apparent that it is true. True or not, it’s awfully embarrassing. Because of the reputation and past activities by gangsters, just knowing that it IS possible is incredibly damaging to Taiwan’s reputation.
the difference between tw and other countries is the degree of impunity for which locals do shit. yes shit happens everywhere, but in developed countries, problems are solvable, bad guys get caught, laws are enforced.
Cuba is an island run by “a” ganster whearas Taiwan is an island run by gangsters (plural).
If I am not mistaken, “The Boss” Fidel Castro once played in the major leagues and doesn’t tolerate any impropriety in Cuban baseball.
That culture is why Cuba has always had a strong baseball team and some of the greatest players. I suspect that strong fair play culture is also the basis for these accusations.
hey what happened to that message from you where you said “ssshhh dont let red frog and tommy525 hear you say this or they will accuse you of being racist.”"
I GOT quite a laugh out of that by the way :roflmao: :roflmao:

It is the story that had he had a better breaking ball he would have been given a nice contract with St. Louis - could have been a different team - and history would have been forever written differently.
Its also said that his animosity for the USA is based upon his feelings of being unfairly treated by the major league scouts so many years ago.
Only Fidel knows the truth.

Well, you’re quoting the wrong message and obviously just looking to pick a fight. Its disappearance wasn’t my doing.
Immature responses like this one are signs of a damaged ego - but of course you’d never admit it and would instead prefer to respond by, uh, saying nothing. But that IS your M.O. so what can be expected?
