Disagreed about the abandonment, (didn’t think it happened)?
Or disagreed that it was the biggest mistake, (okay that it happened and/or there were bigger mistakes)?
I haven’t followed Taiwanese politics for some time now, so I’d be curious if you (or anyone else) could give me some examples of movements or policies the DPP has made towards courting the working class? When I used to follow Taiwanese politics closely, there was no real distinction on class lines in the two parties.
As a left-winger, I agree that the Democrats have totally abandoned the working class, and the Republicans have done a masterful job of bringing them in to their fold. The Labour Party here in the UK isn’t much better, but the Conservatives don’t have anybody like a Trump or a Vance fighting for (or appearing to fight for) the workers’ behalf. Nobody actually believes that Boris Johnson is a populist or a “friend of the people”, as much as he tries to pretend that he is.
No politician cares about the working class in Taiwan. DPP are slightly better than the CKMT in terms of social welfare type projects and systems. That’s undeniable. But in the end, they are both rather shitty at long term, meaningful solutions in terms of taking care of peoples needs. It’s either nothing or bribes more often than not. Mostly just cheap, quick and meaningless payoffs to the public to shut them up enough to not try and push for union styled workforces that would raise the costs of production on things we are ever more not being the best at. DPP is better, not good. Kind of like how herpes is certainly better than HIV.
