I’ve been in clubs about 6 times during a police raid in Taipei. I kind of enjoy it as the lights come on and it’s a great chance to check out the girls and break the ice meeting some new ones. I’ve started a couple of good relationships during a raid.

No. Yes. ‘Wearing your heart on your sleeve’ is a set of behaviours and is a deeply cynical thing to do, in most situations. A measured emotional quid pro quo which by nature isn’t ‘emotional’. I’m more truthful with my close friends, obviously. Aren’t we all?

I doubt there is anything in there that you dont already know, but interesting to me was the number of times she suggests we lie to each other (theres a text version too, no need to watch it all this it the bit that interested me).

On a given day, studies show that you may be lied to anywhere from 10 to 200 times. Now granted, many of those are white lies. But in another study, it showed that strangers lied three times within the first 10 minutes of meeting each other. (Laughter) Now when we first hear this data, we recoil. We can’t believe how prevalent lying is. We’re essentially against lying. But if you look more closely, the plot actually thickens. We lie more to strangers than we lie to coworkers. Extroverts lie more than introverts. Men lie eight times more about themselves than they do other people. Women lie more to protect other people. Thats a lot of lying. I dont know if the numbers are true, but it makes me think about the nature of a lie, and why we do it. We all do. Some are conscious, perhaps it could be argued, the vast majority are unconscious.

I know the Saffie has to leave… visa issues. Didn’t hear it first hand of course because he’s being detained.

I wonder if it is reported in the media, they will report his deportation as visa related or because of this raid, or just say one foreigner was deported, making people assume it was drug bust related?

The police can force people to submit to a drug test just on the basis that you’re in a nightclub? I know this is Taiwan, but it seems a bit unlikely. AFAIK the police are not allowed to enter private property or perform personal searches without reasonable justification.

How would they justify ‘reasonable justification’?
I am curious about the laws here. If the police knocked on your door what rights do you have?
