I only got home in time to see the 9th inning, but in the most thrilling finish to a game of baseball I’ve seen (not that I’ve actually watched much baseball :p), Taiwan, trailing 7-6 against Japan heading into the bottom of the ninth, just got up to win 8-7 in the gold medal game at the World Asian Games in Doha. Congratulations!! :bravo: As an Aussie I know what it’s like to get a win against the old colonial masters…
Great passion shown by the Taiwanese supporters at the stadium, there weren’t that many there, but ‘Taiwan jia you’ was clearly heard over the TV coverage. Great stuff!
Good job by the team. The starting pitcher was shaky, along with some sloppy defense but we pulled through in the end. The guy who hit the game-winning base hit was supposed to be replaced by a pinch-hitter, having gone 0-4 for the day. However, he asked the manager for one more chance and came through. Definitely a feel good story.
By the way, what song did they play at the medal ceremony? That’s not the national anthem as far as I could tell.
Hey that was fast. Thanks for the info. I didn’t hear that whole thing but it sounded better than the national anthem.
Interestingly enough, I was at the Little League World Series two years ago in Williamsport, Pennsylvania and saw the ROC national flag flown as well as the national anthem played before one of the games.
No problem - follow the link in my post above and at the bottom of the page there’s a link to an audio file, if you want to hear it all the way through.
