With all the negative things mentioned in the article it is kind of difficult to believe Taiwan got “good” marks.

From that article “Taiwan Lambasted on Human Rights” would seem a more apropos headline. :laughing:
But I think it was the Foreign Minister who described the report as “good,” based purely on the fact that Taiwan’s record is better than China’s. :laughing: :laughing: :laughing:

There is an evident effort made on the part of the US State Department to try to balance the annual Human Rights report for Taiwan between progress and problems regardless of the situation on the island.

There is an even stronger demand on the State Department not to embarrass various members of the US government. If you recall, just following the slave riots involving a major public works project in Southern Taiwan last year members of the US congress awarded Taiwan
