Taiwan Happy Meal Toy Ban!

Well I remember not to long ago discussing the Toy ban at Mcdonalds in my city of San Francisco. I think it is the dumbest thing I ever heard. Well guess what? Now Taiwan is following the same law in San francicso and will be banning all toys from Happy meals! Here is the news clip for proof. It even mentions specifically that they are following San Francisco’s law. :loco:

Makes it easier to adjust when they move to SF.

Was just about to point it out!!!

What’s kind of funny is that I had a news article on this from CBBC before, and I used it in one of my privates as reading material not 2 weeks ago.

Why don’t the idiots in power rather focus on traffic/environmental/other laws?

Maybe they can make a law, like passing and exam and getting a licence before being allowed to have children.

The mayor of SF is a Taiwanese guy - do you think there is any connection?

Oh shoot! I didnt realize he was Taiwanese! I knew he was Asian American (that’s what they keep saying on the news) but had no idea he had Taiwanese roots! That makes total sense to me then. I am sure he has connections to Taiwan government

Because this won’t affect votes? Afterall whoever gets heavy on parking enforcement isn’t going to be popular with those who like blocking pavements with their scooters and cars

Why don’t people realize that anything that puts a restriction on such fast food chains as McDonald’s and KFC is actually a good thing for the environment and for all people? There is an actual connection between McD & KFC and environmental destruction, not to speak of cruelty against animals.

Besides, the purpose of the proposed ban on fast food toys is to protect our children from the health problems associated with junk food. Children are cleverly being lured by McDonalds into eating their junk food at toddler age. How? With ads aimed at children, playgrounds in every restaurant, and of course lots of shiny toys! Without knowing it, these kids will become addicted to eating junk food with the known consequences for their health and society (just look at the home country of McD and KFC for an example of an obese population). IMHO, the best thing they could do for Taiwan is to put a ban on all McD and KFC “restaurants” altogether.

GC Rider for President! :notworthy:

I. for one, applaud any such move. There is mounting evidence that junk food, and the additives that go into it, is a cause of health problems such as obesity. Protecting children from the marketing practices of McDonald’s is a very reasonable move. It doesn’t outlaw the food; it simply tells them not to offer rewards for bad eating.

I agree with the part on the environment.

However, putting a ban on all McD and KFC in Taiwan? You’re joking, right?

How about a bit of responsible parenting?

Who said anything about a ban? It’s just a restriction on a marketing practice. I think restrictions on marketing to children are reasonable. It doesn’t tell McDonald’s they can’t sell food, only tells them not to offer toys as rewards. Do you remember being a child? I do and remember longing for all those cool breakfast cereals that came with toys and characters. I thought my parents were torturing me with my boring, no-name oats. All the “cool” foods had prizes and toys I wasn’t getting. Now I know better. Focussing marketing on a segment unable to make decisions for themselves is unethical at best.

Oh, my god! Now kids are not going to eat McD anymore … :ohreally: No more incentive to go to McD … You’re screwed … :roflmao:

No one likes to block anything. There just isn’t enough free fucking parking. Coming up with a solutions requires planning, dedication and intelligence -which is why they are banning Happy Meal toys.

Free Parking!

As a parent, I say :bravo:

I have always hated the whole Happy Meal toy thing, mostly for environmental reasons (all of that plastic junk that no one really wants filling landfills…). My boys know that when we (very, very occasionally) eat McDonald’s, we will ask them not to give us the toy because a. it’s usually something they don’t even want, b. it always falls apart anyway and c. it’s bad for the environment. They don’t miss it. I’m all for a ban. And if it discourages other kids from wanting McDonald’s all the time, then that’s even better.

You might as well ban all the deep fried shit Taiwanese love to buy if you are really concerned about people eating junk food. The only reason they are doing this, as was already stated, is because it won’t cost votes and it looks like they are “doing” something for the community.

Yes it is all about the big evil corporations that ruin the future generation, has nothing to do with lousy parenting at all. Burn McD, long live the revolution
I do however agree with the ban of toys, the mass production of does plastic thing can not be good to the environment.

f they changed the law for environmental reasons, I would be OK with that. Since they are changing the law because of bad parenting choices, I get concerned.

I don’t see a line that can’t be crossed now with regards to parents making choices vs. government interference with dictating that choice.
Do I agree this is a good idea? Yes. Do I think it should be done? Not in a free market economy.

I wish they would ban tianbula stalls. Pretty sure they’re FAR more popular than Mickey D and FAR more unhealthy. Knee-jerk fucking lip service because McDs are dirty barbarian foreigners and tianbula stalls are an example of the GLORY and PRIDE of TAIWAN!
Fucking bobble-headed clowns. Taiwan, UP YOURS!

I admit i visit mickeyD bout 4 to 5 times a week (arghhh)
