Taiwan Home owners

What amount of tax do you pay on owning your house/apartment in Taiwan?

Is it 1.2%-2% of the value paid annually?

It’s between 1-2% depending on where you reside, it’s determined by the city

The tax is not calculated on the real value of your property but on some historical assessment, although this is changing

I think you are mixed up with zero’s, it is much less than that, much!
At least in Tamsui.

The above link says the land tax starts in New Taipei City at 1%, and then increases progressively

Are we talking about the same tax ?

Note the tax is not calculated based on current property prices but some historical assessed value which is out of whack, as I alluded to in my previous post

Here is the house tax page for New Taipei City, also says that tax is 1.2%

What tax are you referring to that is far less ?

I was thinking it can’t be 1% on the market value, everyone would be poor.

It’s not, ifs some gov assessment value that is not same as market

OK that might be the reason.
Although correct, rather confusing to refer to 1-2% then.
Tamsui might be lower than its big neighbour, but we pay 0.06% over the present estimated apartment value in land and house tax combined. it is absolute peanuts.
