Taiwan just (slightly) relaxed Dual Citizenship Rules

Can you please say the whole story?

If you noticed, I can’t exactly leave New Taipei. All of the immi forms ask if you have multinationality.

It’s not exactly a choice if I don’t want to admit it on a government form.

They already know. Just admit it and apply down south.

They know after, but it wasn’t an option at the time.

You really have nothing to lose.

I think i’ll make a second attempt and push for them to accept the app as is.

For those with a little extra coin in the bank

Only $400,000usd for Turkey citizenship

Turkey Citizenship by Investment: The Definitive Guide 2023.

Once you become a Turkey you can use that to renounce and become a Taiwanese. I think now is a good time since thanksgiving has just passed. Happy late thanksgiving!

Isn’t that why they renamed themselves to Türkiye to avoid confusion especially around Thanksgiving time…?

There were many rich people who bought Cyprus Passports. Now some of them are loosing their citizenship’s. I posted it in the Ukraine thread.

Cannot lose the citizenship if you already renounced it to become Taiwanese

No. They changed the spelling to protect their cultural heritage. Nothing to do with Thanksgiving.

However, many still know them as “Turkey.”

Just cheap out and get a Vanuatuan one if just using it for renunciation, save Turkey for special occasions.

I don’t think that would be a possibility though, someone had posted not too long ago (on a FB legal group) that they got rejected for a resident visa due to Taiwan not recognizing citizenships by investment (this was a Dominican Republic investment citizenship passport holder).

BOCA do also state on their website:

  1. The Republic of China (Taiwan) only recognizes foreign passports obtained through normal means in accordance with international law. Visa applications using foreign passports obtained through other means, such as investment or procurement, will not be processed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and its overseas missions.

One would assume an island nation in danger of disappearing through rising sea levels would have other priorities…

That only applies to MOFA and the overseas missions. NIA in Taiwan will recognize them.

It is probably more of an issue (investment citizenship) where the person was/is a mainland area person.
