These Lotto rollovers are mad! works out higher the jackpot prize more people buy tickets.
So 5 million more tickets bought that means another 5 million less chance of winning jackpot.
They did it the UK, changed the format as sales where going down, so more rollovers more tickets get bought less chance of winning.
Gamblers heaven more money less chance, more alchohol to numb the pain, lose your job, lose your home, out on the streets.
Your goverment caused this.

Pretty much.

That’s why I like betting in NZ. totalized betting is so much fairer.

Why is it legal to use stimulus vouchers to play the lottery??

Good question.

If anything the government should have added a larger prize pool or frequency on the receipt lottery to encourage people to spend their money on almost anything but the other lottery. (And thus keep better track of where it’s going)

Why is it legal to use the vouchers to buy lottery but not liquor?!?!

Because the government runs the lottery.

It goes back into the government’s pocket, plus tax on the won amount.

How is there a lower chance of selecting the correct numbers if more lottery tickets are sold? The only downside to more tickets sold to the holder of the winning ticket is a greater chance of having to share the jackpot. Number of entrants has zero impact on chances of winning.

The odds of selecting 6 winning numbers are the same regardless of tickets sold. Probably around 14 million to 1 or so.

EDIT: It appears 7 numbers need to be correctly chosen on this idiot tax, so 19 million to 1?

Something close to 19 million if the range of numbers you can pick is between 1 and 40?

Doesn’t make sense as probably more than 20,000,000 tickets are sold every time.

Funny things, statistics and probabilities. I suppose we wouldn’t have national lotteries if people understood them.

I looked it up and it’s 22 million to one. The first 6 numbers go up to 49 and the seventh number is one to eight.

Taiwan Lottery suggested that players who want to improve their odds of winning the jackpot buy eight tickets with the same first six numbers and different seventh numbers (from 1 to 8).

That will increase the probability of taking the grand prize from one in 22 million to one in 2.76 million, the company said.

That strategy would also enable the holder of the tickets to have seven second prize tickets because the second prize is awarded to tickets matching the first six numbers drawn, the company said.

Are they seriously allowed to get away with that? Wow!
