Thank you everyone who participates in this forum—it has been so helpful while planning our move. My family, including 2 young children, are planning a short term move to Taiwan. I apologize if my questions are ridiculously obvious, but I’m just a bit nervous when it comes to my kids, and our local TECO has been really hard to get a hold of due to coronavirus restrictions.
Would anyone be able to just confirm these steps and give any input?
Obtaining Taiwanese passports. My parents are both full citizens with household registration. My husband is as well. I have only a US passport, as do my kids. We have all the required documentation ready, and it appears that obtaining passports for myself and the kids is straightforward.
We are being told by TECO that because myself and kids will have passports but not citizenship, we must apply for a visa to stay in Taiwan for 3 months. Once in country, we can apply for an extension for another 3 months. Is this true that we need a visa and have a 6 month limit? Any way to get around that and stay longer?
