Taiwan on a scooter

I recently invested in a Vespa scooter and have decided I would like to travel this island on it!

I plan to do this around October and am currently based in Taipei. I figure on giving myself two weeks to do this (I’m not in a race) and want to know if anyone has done something like before and particularly want to know about driving times.

For example has anyone ridden to Miao Li county? Crossed the Central Cross Highway (no. 8)? Sped down from Haulien to Taidong? Gone around the North coast? Done the “cape” of Taiwan (Kending coastline)?

Any other advice (apart from “don’t go, you crazy fool!!!”) would be appreciated from anyone who has done anything similar (for example where to go / not to go, where to stay / not to stay)

Look at the “motorcycle touring” thread in the Travel forum. Lots of information there. And October is probably by far the best time of year for such a trip.
