you are assuming people in their 50s and 60s can easily rejoin the workforce, which isnt that easy in reality.

It isn’t now, but eventually it will become easy. Hiring old people wasn’t popular anywhere in the past either but it became popular anyway because business establishments needed the work force.

Taiwan has the bizarre combination of low retirement age, low labor participation, and no welfare state, which means old people choose not to work because they saved their asses off when they were young and cost of living is low. What really needs to change is their lack of desire to work.

The problem with getting older people back into the workforce is presumably they don’t need to work, otherwise they’d still be working. The UK is experiencing this.

Interestingly, I heard on ICRT today that 16 million young people in China are NEETs. That’s a serious social problem. Particularly as the number is almost certainly much higher when provided by the CCP.
