Taiwan population decline

Culture really is an aspect to this. The way the whole world has gone, all about self fulfilment. We lost our way somehow. We need to get back to family values. And I say that fully admitting to being one of the self fulfilment pursuing millennials for most of my adult life.

Should govts play a part? Why not. When we have billion zillion dollar company’s doing everything in their power to keep us on the teet of their shitty apps, which we know has hugely negative effects for us and society then yes i think govts should be stepping in to limit the power these company’s have.

Govts should also be pouring money into researching how to combat this population crisis. Like anything, its a problem and it needs a soloution. It isnt going to right itself, its only going to get worse.

And as for living costs i think more social housing should absolutely be built in Taiwan. Its a huge benefit. One that right now only a few people can enjoy.

It isn’t rocket science and doesn’t really need a whole lot of “research” to achieve. Government’s job in this aspect is to create a favorable environment for child-rearing: Better labor laws, facilitate a better work environment, incentivize long-term cheaper housing (starter homes for young couples and families), and propagandize the shit out of having children and traditional family values. It also means tamping down on the ‘world-is-ending’ fear-mongering.

I disagree all day on that because this is a world ending crisis.

You haven’t done your research have you.

It is, but it seems, that most people do not care anyway, so maybe rather it is better to just encourage behaviors which can avoid this grim scenario instead.

Rural Japan is rapidly depopulating and the world doesn’t seem to be coming to an end. There’s more wildlife and old people can easily find a job if they want one, unlike in other countries where ageism is a problem. Many marginal businesses have shut down but core services are readily available and young people tired of the big city are starting artisanal businesses here and there. So if there’s a life threatening downside to depopulation I’m not seeing it.

So your position is that government shouldn’t be encouraging childbirth to avoid depopulation?

Yeah it’s definitely not the end od the worlds but it does lead to issues such as lower incomes , lower pensions , stressed health systems and increased lonelieness .

But it’s good to point out the favourable aspects of a depopulating world , yes .

Taiwan’s population is decreasing but their hoovering up of natural resources hasn’t decreased.

Obviously not. Why waste both our time with such a comment…?

Your comment of disagreement struck me as odd since I was under the impression that you also believed government support would be helpful, hence why I asked the question.

So what roles do you see government performing to facilitate a favorable environment for families?

Demographics is destiny. It will get worse. The next generation will be halved, then halved again after that and keep compounding. Or do you suggest it will just stop now at this new un crowded utopia where we have more nature and old people can find jobs? If so, what are you basing that off???

Try reading my comments maybe?

I gave my suggestions pretty clearly.

So far I’ve only seen vague suggestions of “research more”, “throw money at the issue”, and “control company apps,” but nothing regarding specifics.

So what do you believe the government can realistically do to reverse the issue?

Yea thats what I said. Put money into researching a soloution to the problem, or do you think my opinion counts more than the experts?

Limiting social medias power and more social housing were common sense suggestions but im sure they would have some positive effect.

JMO, I don’t see another expensive years-long study to tell us what we already know as being useful. :man_shrugging:

It would be more efficient to take steps that generally improve quality of life and incentivize starting families and raising children. In other words “do something rather than just talk about it.”

We don’t already know, thats the thing.

The only current answer we have is to be muslim, or from a really poor country.

Or Christian from a really poor country.

Giving breeders handouts doesn’t seem to work, either.

The Palm Springs bomber said he was against bringing people into this world against their will. I’m all for that, but I’m not sure if there’s any practical method to solve this issue. Look, I didn’t ask to be born, either.

Oh uah zian for you in response to the Korean food hope

As for the bomber I’m glad he died

Let me guess: “He was a person of interest known to the FBI”…
