Just to bring the discussion closer to the thread title, prior to shutting down the last reactor, nuclear power only contributed to 6% of total electricity produced during peak hours. If they do manage to bring NP4 back online after wasting even more tax payer money, it would only contribute around 11% of the total electricity production. So to completely replace fossil fuel, Taiwan would need to build around 8 or 9 nuclear power plants. That is simply impossible for this tiny island.
What is possible is:
Taiwan’s geothermal potential is the same as 30 nuclear power plants. It’s sustainable. It’s renewable. It’s baseload. It’s cheap. It’s safe, even if there’s a war, earthquake, tsunami, or typhoon, and it’s right under our feet.
