Informative opinion. Sad to see you go. As far as development goes, places like the Seaside Park are a vast improvement. I remember when the only thing in that undeveloped area was a turkey farm where they used to throw the discarded guts into the lake.
And speaking of local corruption, at least the protests against the hotel at Sanyuan prevented it from opening,if not from being torn down.
I agree on the Seaside Park (the one in Taitung City at least, if not the ones in Dawu and Chenggong). If only that hotel could have been torn down into the bargain.

Chang Jer? Chang Jr? Chang…? Seems like no matter what way you write 長治 in English it looks weird. At any rate I couldn’t remember how they spelled it on the sign when I was there a month ago, it’s country as f***, and I like to think the residents of Chang Jr. will forgive me.

I’ll certainly remember this town’s name. 
If you get a chance take to "old train: to/from Fangliao and Southern Taitung coastal cities. Not sure how much longer it will run (once per day now, other trains are all modern carriages with air con)
